Too much torque to the rear wheels

I recently replaced my transmission with a subaru rebuilt I got off ebay for $650.00. The tranny shifts great no flares or slipping. But I now have this tremendous amount of power going to my rear wheels. I mean to the point where I'm not pounding the gas but I burn rubber and the car pulls to the left. You got to hang on to control this beast, it's like it's got too much horsepower. Any idea's?

Is there binding in tight turns?

Put in the FWD fuse, check to see if drive to the rear continues and report the results for further diagnosis.

weird...I thought the TCU limits the amount of power to the rear wheels to a maximum of 50%.

The idea of a 50/50 split is rather nebulous. E.G. If the centre clutch is locked up solid and the front has no traction, 100% torque will be applied to the rear wheels.

Also interesting ----

When the car is travelling on an even surface and in a straight line, the road and forward motion in effect lock the front and rear wheels as if they were connected by a chain or a toothed belt.

Torque can be applied to the front wheels with less to the rear because the rear can be partly coasting and be pulled along i.e. driven by the front. In this situation the clutch need not be applied at full pressure and a state of tension can exist between the plates but there will be no real slip.

Say 90% torque front, 10% rear. This results in the missing 80% to the rear being provided by the coupling provided by forward motion. When the car enters a corner in these circumstances, and the situation changes, there is surely the foregone conclusion of initial understeer.

It will be seen that in a straight line there is no stress on the centre clutch pack.

Is it possible that the final drive ratio may be mismatched?

I was going to try the FWD fuse this morning, except we've gotten nailed by another snow storm. They close the schools and stop the buses but I still have to go to work.
I guess anything is possible with this one, but as far as the tranny goes the transmission shop asked me to get them the part # and serial number of the tranny before they would approve it for my car.
It drives real scary in the snow with all that torque to the rear, I'm in for a fun drive to the office...60km of terror awaits me.

Question I, too, thought the "limit" to the rear...

...was 50%.

Maybe "effective" traction is the keyword in Trevor's example of no traction in the front? Otherwise you would be driving what was essentially a rear wheel drive car that would shift traction to the fronts like a BMW?

Cheers!

Just a wild guess but it if the transmission is indeed correct the only other possibility is that the front half-shafts were installed wrong way round. Difficult but not impossible.

it could also be that your old transmission had a bad transfer clutch and your used to driving the car in fwd, just to throw another idea on the table
