Car heats up, one headlight goes out..

never did this until I installed the hid's. I'll be driving on the freeway (getting airflow I guess) but when I get off on an exit, my driver's side light flicks out. When I turn the car off at the store or whatever and come back out and start the car back up, turn the lights on, they both come on normally. My car doesn't overheat or anything it just gets really warm under the hood after driving a little while. I have both ballasts mounted in open areas under the hood, I wonder why only one turns off?

Who did you buy them from?
Are they still under warranty?
Have you switched the Subaru headlight relays in the fuse box under the hood?
If you switch the right side with the left side, and the same light still goes out, then you know its not the factory relays.
Is the side thats going out closer to the engine?

I bought them from dayle. I changed out the fuses from the stock 10A to 20A's just like the directions said, you don't have to change relays for hid's. I swear it has to do with heat because they never go out on short trips.

It could be a faulty light like Tom said and still be a heat related issue too. If there is a problem with the light that the heat from the bulb causes the fixture to overheat, it could possibly cause it to shut off. The air flow on the Highway could keep it from getting too hot, but in stop and go traffic, there isn't enough air flow to cool it. I would do like Tom said and switch sides and see if you get the same results.

How bout re-locate to fender wells, less heat and all

what tom is getting at is that the relay could be bad, so if you switch the left and right relays (left in the right, right in the left) and the problem then becomes the other side, then that relay is your problem and needs to replace it.

When my headlight relay on my other japanese was about to go kaput, my both headlights wud blink sometimes after some drivings when it got hotter. Or just no headlights from both at night drivings.

I used my left hand to keep "pulling""holding" the light switch stalk in order to have lights.(highbeam all the times) and used my right to turn wheel and change gears for few weeks. After I changed my relay it's all good until now.

I don't know if SVX has different wiring design...but it's 4 bulbs for the headlights...did you try or when you change to highbeam or flash your highbeam, does it still blink?

high beam, fog, and corner bulbs all work normally. I think there may be some moisture in the actual projector beam housing that I never cleared out after the clear lense swap. I'll leave the bulb unplugged tomorrow for the sun to dry it out. If they don't work tomorrow night I'll try swapping the relays. If that doesn't work I guess I'll rip out the ballasts (used two-sided sticky foam to mount them) and put them in the fender well.

The ballast unit is bad. I swapped bulbs and the same side was still out. I swapped ballasts and the other side didn't work.. Great. I shot Dayle an email hopefully he can order me a new one.
