Unhappy power steering noise

hi all,

got an 95 svs AWD and lately when o turn the wheel hard all the way to the left or right the power steering make a squeaking noise and the "metal wheel" that comes out of the pump and has the belt on it it stops spinning.....

i checked the O-ring...looks OK....i don't have any leaks fron the pump....or under the car...

anyboby experienced this before?..any ideas...?

i'm very new in this field and i feel i have to explain it in chineeseeee

thank u

The belt could be old or loose. Tighten it by turning the bolt at the tensioner.

Did you replace the O-ring when you checked it? I would do it if you didn't. It could cause some problems if it is sucking air into the system.

loose or glazed, dirty belt
how far can you rotate the belt while under tension (cross-axial rotation)

thanks so much guys...

i checked the O-ring and looks OK ...took it to the AutoParts to get a new one and they said that they don't carry the same type....the one i have is a bit flat on the edges and theirs is round all the way....supposed to be round all the way around on the edges?...

also checked the PS pump and looks ok...i cleaned it up....got new fluid in after flushed the old on....it's a bit better but still getting noise everytime i turn the wheel..

this car set for the last 3 yrs...had a bad timing belt which was replace recently...has only 75k on it...

i replaced the belt also to make sure...even though the old one still looks OK...

maybe i should let it sit again for the next 3 yrs....maybe gets better:-))

"Autoparts" must be stupid. An O ring is when new, round all round. This is the principle involved in the seal which is achieved. Yours has become flattened and compressed over time. Exactly why it is leaking.

I recorded the measurements of the component some time ago and I understand these figures are in the how too section. A special OEM part is not required and Suitable O rings are available as a normal commodity item.

What Trevor Said --

The O-Ring should not have any flat on it.

steering noise and new stuff

yes, thanks so much guys..

i decided to stop by the dealer....i got the O ring (no flats like u gous said) and installed it....no more noise in the steering anymore...now for some reason...on low speeds...like when i start the car moving from a stop u can hear some knocks ...i'm not sure if from transmission or tires....checked all tires...pressure OK...no POWER lite comes on...

maybe i have to change the ATF and filters....again this car sat for the last 3 years....before i never had this sound....

maybe are the wheel bearings?...could they go bad if the car sits?.....maybe rust.....dust...who knows....

i checked in How To and i found no info on how to replace them.....

any info?.

thanks again..

Replace them? Do you mean the wheel bearings or filters?
