Question Pricing question.

Still looking for a SVX to purchase. (sigh)

Talked to a guy who had a black '92 with 75K on the clock. He said he might be willing to part with for the right price. I asked him how much and he said, if I recall, $8500. What would justify that price?

A perfect finish and interior, spotless Carfax and impeccable maintenance records, maybe. You can spend one-quarter that amount up front but you'll likely quadruple the work that needs to be done to get it into top shape.

Very little in my opinion. The chances that ANY 92 is worth that much even with low mileage like that is slim to nil.

My experience is many cars that have low mileage are used for very short jaunts... or are "teen" cars that are pretty much ridden hard and put away wet but only on local jaunts. Either that, or the car was stored for a while... and right now I'm battling enough gremlins on my 96 caused by storing the car for a year that I'd be nervous about ANY vehicle that's been stored.

Keep looking, though... the good cars ARE out there and ARE for sale. Check the For Sale section right here; many of the cars owned by members are very well cared for.

75k is like ...nothing. Honestly if it hasnt been crashed and / or molested by a bodyshop, mechanic, or teenager, its about 5,000 kbb value (And worth every penny, dispite what the bargian shoppers may say)

good luck with the continuing search
