Would you love the SVX if it were a Chevy?

[Sorry; it's too quiet in here.]

I learned to drive in a sweet old 1962 Chevrolet Impala, and if I had to have a Chevy I wouldn't mind having that one back, but fact is, I hate the Chevy brand like no other. Always have. Hate it.

So if the SVX were built by Chevy, I'd sooner walk.

Funny thing, brand loyalty and loathing.

This is how we often miss out on a really good car. My SVX was the first and only Subaru I've ever owned, and I'm not wild about Subaru in general. But I am a car nut, so as I watched the development of the SVX in car magazines it impressed me with its engineering and attention to detail. I decided to give it a try and the rest, as they say, is history. Great car. I dare say that with very few exceptions, every auto manufacturer has produced at least one notable example that is worthy of consideration. By the way, before you get on my case about Subarus remember that I live in a warm climate where the real attributes of Subaru are not such an advantage, and that my nearest Subaru dealer is 100+ miles away. Truth is, I'm not much of a Chevy fan either, but I've owned several and all have been pretty good cars, many that I wish I'd kept -my '57 BelAir coupe for one. I paid $550.00 for it back then! I don't usually like Chrysler products, but my Jeep Liberty has been a great vehicle. Yes, you'll find a good car among most all brands. Best wishes.

UM UM UM, there are trouble makers all around us! I LOVE CHevys , Specially the 67, 8 & 9 Camaros, some of them ,just like other brands. I like the looks of the new ones but I cant see financing a car for the amount of $$$ they go for these days. Theres just something bout the A$$ end of them (the 67, 8's & 9's) that is HOT! JUST LIKE THE SVX!
Its too damn cold to walk anywhere aound here!

Not trying to cause trouble. I just thought that Ford thread still had some legs before it got flamed into oblivion. And I think it's interesting how we form allegiances with some brands while shunning others. I trace my dislike for Chevy to my father's employment with Ford when I was a kid. By the same token, when he moved across the runway to starting painting planes for Delta Air Lines, I commenced to hating arch-rival Eastern.

My first wife had a '78 Chevy Chevette, which without a doubt had to be the worst excuse for an automobile ever foisted onto the American public, but that's another story...

Ford wasnt any better with their Pinto and then there's the AMC Pacer. All the major manufactures have biult there own version of wheeled dung heaps.

I drive a chevy truck...but my next truck will def. be a Toyota...My luck with trucks isn't good, but Toyota has a quality manufacturing process which makes me feel better.

Now, now Mike...don't start bashing AMC's.
My father has some

I would buy an SVX even if it were a chevy.

I would have to be a chevy, ford, yugo with exactly the same quality and exactly the same curves and lines.

I am an SVX fan because of its quality but mostly because of its styling.

i used to be a chev fan...but they havent made anything i like in years...well ok, maybe a 2006 silverado 4 dr....

just wanted to check something.........its too cold in V freakin A ?!?!?

try where i am!!
lol
i'll trade ya !!
hehehe
wait a sec...
isnt someone on svx net from alaska??
brrrrrrrrr
i'll bet he'd like to trade with ME!!
lol
lets see.its 12:45 pm and a balmy -5 celsius in bright sunshine forecast for tomorrow is +8 C thats about 47 F ? sheesh i wish the weather would make up its mind !
thats what? 23 F ?

while im on the subject of temp...is there a way to switch the svx temp display to metric?

whoa did i go off-topic!! sorry !!

where were we?

oh yes for me it was chev or dodge.........now i like dodges more so
i never found anything WRONG with ford per se
ford just does things differently than i would....and i just cant get behind it...

sorta like subaru....i loved hondas so easy to work on and u could really see the engineering that went into them
the svx has tons of engineering excellence in it.but did it REALLLLY have to be so hard to work on/ complicated??

trust me i LOVE subarus.....but working on one.....? it sure could be easier!

sorta like my old 4000s quattro......wonderful car....fairly simple design, but IMPOSSIBLE to work on!

We have chevys over here now too. Well, some chevys.

Far a while we have had the Crossfire. You see a few of them around. I think it is primarily a rebodied Merc.

Now they have purchased Daewoo, and rebadged them, and are running dealerships here.

I think Daewoos/Chevys are good little cars, well built and designed, so they should do well.

My own favourite would be the Corvette, but it is not made in RHD, so it would be a slow embarrassment on our narrow country roads, no proper visibility from driving in the "wrong" side of the vehicle.

I think the SVX is the best thing that Subaru ever made. OK, I'm biased.

I'm not a fan of Fords, although the Focus ST is a good car. The new GT is good also, if you own an oil company

Somebody said that every manufacturer comes up with a gem of a car now and again, Preston, was it?, and I agree with this. The trick is to get to know the combination of virtues [or faults you will not tolerate!] before you buy, and value your car for the things it does well.

Joe
