Trunk lid really heavy?

I was wondering if everyones trunk lid is really heavy? When I pull the lever to open my trunk, it does not spring open or anything, and it is REALLY heavy to lift up, and when you go to close it, it SLAMS shut unless you hold onto it. Is this normal?

Your trunk struts are bad my man. Easy but usually not cheap fix.

Trust me it's heavy....the trunk wont pop up on it's own...just enough to release from the latch. My struts are perfect.
You just have to lightly close it, the weight will make sure it latches.

Your struts are bad. Maybe only one, but replace them both.

My struts are perfect as well. When I release mt trunk, with the lever or the key, it unlucks but does not pop up. I can raise and lower the trunklid with just one hand. You can let it go about halfway from being closed and it will gently lock on its own under its own weight.

The spoiler adds a lot of weight to the trunklid as well. When I put new struts on my pearlie (NO spoiler) I could let my trunklid go at almost any point and it would stay there without dropping. Replacing them only takes about 5 minutes each side.

Here are the Part numbers for the struts:

57521PA000 Stay Trunk (Right side)
57521PA010 Stay Trunk (Left side)

Dealer list: $58.78 ..Subaruparts $44.79 each

Are there no aftermarket replacements for the Trunk Struts?

Don't believe so. The mounts are unique to the SVX.

Looks like my Trunk stays nice and Heavy for awhile, or untill I choose to try my idea for an automatic Trunk with Actuators...

I like to do reps with my heavy trunk lid. Ya know, keep in shape and the what not. Cheaper and quicker than going to the gym.

One of the minor pleasant surprises on the SVX I recently bought was healthy struts fore and aft.

In actuality the trunk lid is not that heavy. The design of the hinges makes the lid feel heavy. The spoiler makes a huge difference though.

super shocks

maybe we can install a nozzle on the case of the shock and put a charge of compressed air to it.

It seems heavyer than it really is. Good struts help a lot.
