Atf oil light

In the left upper corner of the instrument panel where the theres the picture of the car decal is there a light that shows ATF temp when the switch is turn on. This is on a 94 svx L model. if light should be good where is the temp unit for that light located. It does not come on at all. My 92's shows the words ATF temp in that area. Or does the 94 L fwd not have one.
Thank you

It has one but if it ever comes on while you're driving your tranny is already toast!

The sensor is internal but doesn't trigger the warning light anywhere near a "warning" temperature.

In fact I don't think anyone has seen it illuminate while they were driving.

I have buried the needle on my aftermarket atf temp gauge and the idiot light still did not come on. That is over 240 degrees. Like Earthworm said, if you see that light your tranny is already toast.

In fact aren't there two lights?

One in the top left with a logo showing a gearbox with flames coming off it. Another in the centre at the bottom labeled "AT Oil Temp". I don't know what the difference is.

The best joke of all is the writing on the sunvisor that says something like "avoid hard driving when the AT OIL TEMP light is on". As others have said, if the light comes on you already have a "box full of neutrals", so hard driving is rather unlikely.

On my 92's the light comes on to show it is working when you start up the lights go out----never comes while driving---- So no toast in the trans department---- On the 94 L fwd the light never comes on period either to show you have one or not, so my question is does this have a sending unit on the trans or is it internal either way if someone can help me locate this i would appreicate it. I just like to have all working weather they do the job or not i still like to have them function somewhat.----never seen the flames logo on my panel.
Thank you,if someone can show me this in a picture or tell me the part #

I did.

It was last Saturday night about 8:30 pm. I was climbing a long gradual hill on the way to svxfile's house in Cumberland (western Maryland).

The tranny was already slipping badly when I left Baltimore, but 100 miles into the trip, and climbing that loooooong gradual grade it finally happened.

I wish I had my digital camera ready to take a photo of the dashboard, with its soft green illumination, looking completely normal , except for:

The ATF OIL TEMP light glowing brightly...

The gearshift indicator in DRIVE and the tachometer at 4500RPM...

and the speedometer needle at ZERO!

AAA towed us the last 30 minutes to Tom's house, where it will get a 4.44 swap this week.

TomSVX can give you a better description of the whole thing. He was following behind me in a dense cloud of acrid smoke from the ATF. It was the first time he ever saw the light come on as well.
