Water pump differences??
Hi, My 1996 UK model SVX needs a water pump badly,no one in the UK can supply one (not even Subaru UK) The part number for a UK pump is 21111AA070 where as the US number is 21111AA033 Any ideas what the differece is and will it fit?? I have ordered it from http://www.1stsubaruparts.com/ they do not know if it will fit.
Thanks MAL. |

I would be surprised if it didn't, but maybe you can tell us if it fits or not. Hope so.

Just guessing, I would say the U.S. spec water pump has a slightly larger impeller,to increase flow.

Why increased flow? North of the equator?

He's buying a U.S. spec water pump is he not? It was my estimation that the U.S. spec water pump may have a slightly larger impeller due to the much higher ambient air temperatures the U.S. spec SVX'S operate under.

Interesting thought. I don't know that they are different, but I am interested if it is.

Then wouldn't it be slower to leave the water in the radiator longer?
Under demanding conditions some engines will actually overheat without a thermostat because the coolant circulates too fast. This can be exacerbated by body designs that require small radiators.

Seems odd that a UK Subaru outlet wouldn't be able to order a water pump for you, at the least, unless they're saying that none remain on the planet. If it turns out that the US-spec pump you ordered doesn't fit (I'll bet it does), I'd try another Suby parts vendor. Failing that, have you checked to see if aftermarket pumps are available there, as they are here in the States? Good luck.

Pumps Almost The Same But
What a wonderful thing the UPS postal thing is,ordered pump and timing belt 18-00 on Monday UK time, delivered 10-00 wednesday. As you can see from the photo the Uk pump has an extra water pipe/take off that goes to the oil filter/sandwich block (oil cooler) I will get the pump drilled and tapped, hopefully up and running again this time tomorrow.Do none of the US cars have this cooler arrangement?? Even with the postage/taxes/duty it was still cheaper than the UK prices=even though nobody at all stocks the pump, they all said it was obsolete/discontinued.

Interesting. Why would Subaru make a different water pump set up for UK spec cars???

It's the identical casting, only the UK version has that additional outlet. Wonder if that's UK only, or all except North American SVXs? Seems I've seen mention of the oil cooler Mal described here before.

maybe it has something to do with RHD. I see 2 pipes on each but the US spec has both going to the driver's side and the UK spec has one going each direction. Good luck with the modification.

Can you get a picture of the oil cooler that you are talking about?
