Anyone notice the Porsche 3.8L uses the IRIS system?

When I was at the Detroit Auto Show, they had a cutaway display of the Porsche 3.8L engine. An awesome 350HP and 295Ft/lb of torque from a naturally aspirated engine.

The Intake system caught my eye. It had butterfly valves that separated the intake tract into two halves and had two throttle bodies. Sound familiar?

Ever since I have been looking for documentation about the Porsche system online but have come across nothing.

BTW, using a carefully concealed tape measure at the show, it appears that the Porsche motor is almost the same width but is a little taller than the SVX engine. I still think it could be made to fit. Anyone want to donate one to me to test out my theory???

in 1987, the Porsche used a valve in the 928 intake, to alter the length of the intake runners based on RPM (differing RPM points were used, depending on if you were accelerating or decellerating). i'm not sure when the 911 started using this, though.

the Ford Probe (Mazda MX-6 engine) also used a "VRIS" system to open butterflies in the intake.

probably plenty others i'm not aware of, too.

Its a 4' key chain tape measure. Its only a quarter inch wide. It was a Stanley promotion from a few years ago, but it is really convenient.
