Gotta love the factory 'special edition' models...

One thing I liked/hated about the 968's was the huge size of the Inline 4 engine. I mean I can't think of any other 3.0L 4 cyl engine. However, even in NA form, a 5.9s sprint to 60mph is pretty darn quick!

BTW...

Alan,

since you are the epitome of Porsche knowledge, what kind of car is this in Mudfoot76's locker?

Looks like a cross between an old MG/Triumph roadster and a 60's Lotus Elan...

Read my previous post. You may see 968's from a whole new perspective.

There was indeed a 968 Turbo S. 15 produced. It was a street legal car, and it had the 2.5L turbo engine (with more HP than the 944 Turbo S). Its curb weight was a tad below 2900 lbs.

All 4 cylinders were badged vw everywhere but US. The true Porsche was the 914-6. It was basically a 911 with a different body and mid instead of rear engine.

I would rather have the twin cam 16v 3.0 liter than the turbo. Great response in the high revs. Maybe not the best in the 1/4, but Porsches are not straight line cars.

The 89-91 944s2 also had a 3.0l.

If you ever drive a Turbo S, you will change your mind about that. The Turbo S' 2.5 has more mid and top end than the DOHC 3.0.

Not to mention, with the minor mods requires for it to break the 300 HP barrier you're looking at a lighter engine with much more potential.

Alan,

'monster' is the understatement of the century!

Sooo....You were right. I test drove a 951 this weekend and fell in love with it. So much fun. The on/off effect of the turbo was quite interesting when driving in Chicago traffic. Now I am going to look throughout the winter to find one to buy in the spring.

I also sat in a 928 and was a little disappointed. My head hit the roof! I was suprised since I fit very well in the 944.

i thought it had at least as much room as the SVX, if not more. i remember several guys on the 928 forums that were 6'4" or larger and didn't have a problem. did you adjust the seat?

Didn't really play around with it too much. Although, my dad came with me to check out the cars and decided that the 928 was the car for him. He has begun his search for one. Any suggestions on which one to buy? I was thinking an 87 s4.
