Question opinion on transmission

I can buy a transmission from a local yard for around $350. It is a 94 awd model with 124,000 miles on it. The fluid is not burnt but dont know if it would be a good buy. Also I have a 1992 lsl awd would I need to get the computer or any other parts to do a swap. What do guys think buy it and take a chance or pass. thanks damian

The original tranny on my car lasted about 133k miles, and that was well above average. You're the only one who can determine whether that risk is worth it to you.

Are you going to install the transmission yourself, or pay somebody to do it? If you're planning on the former, the risk may be worth it. If the latter, then maybe not.

I plan on installing it myself. I have changed enough tranny to know what Im doing. Its a local yard where they actually let you go find it and take it off unlike some of the other yards around here "due to insurance we cannot let you take parts off" crap. The owner has been helpful and as long as I keep buying parts he wont smash it. Damian

Well, hey, if $350 is all you can afford right now, then maybe it's worth the gamble. But if you do it, I'd recommend saving your pennies and expecting to replace it again soon.

Why dont you offer to buy the entire car? $350 for an as is used traney pull it yourself sounds a bit steep, maby he'll make you a deal on the entire car... or offer him whatever you think it's worth to pull all the parts you might need for a bulk rate...
