How would you like to hear a story... NO!?!... well to bad, I'll tell it any way!

My father (svxfiles) used to work as a salesman for Subaru, that's why we're into svxs, any way... This man came to my dad and asked for a brand new wrx for his 16yr old son, who just got his liscence, but my dad advised against it saying he was going to crash it, try an outback or a forester. But the man bought it any way. Sure enough, the boy crashed going 60mph on a public road one week later. Then the man bought another one for his son!!! Whether the 2nd one ended up a crashed heap is still a mystery. But all my dad had to say was "I told you so."

I am a pessimistic optimistic. I think the worst is going to happen, that way when it does, i don't feel as bad, but if the best happens, i am twice as happy.

Wink Well Aged

can we do 40 something now !!!....I mean it used to be 30 something..anyway..on the kid thing my eldest son [19] loves to drive the SVX given any chance he gets..he doesn't have one himself..and in view of my recent exposure to the costs estimates to sort my red car I'd say he's pretty happy with my assisted decision with him to get him into a different car..

Well, 16 - 20 y/o guys do seem a bit more likely to hit expensive things than the rest of us. But some 16-year-olds drive responsibly and some 40-year-olds drive like maniacs. I was one of those boringly responsible teenage drivers, I think I would've been fine with an SVX as my first car if I could've afforded the vehicle and insurance. Shrug.

ages

Actually both boys have been steering real cars since they were 2 years old.
Behind the dealership we had 8 acres of relitavely smooth grass, an open area (with few trees to run into).
They learned to operate a clutch in the snow , New Years Day when they were about 10 +9 , on a narrow rocky goat path beside a seldom used railroad, watched, no doubt, by bear and deer.
They now, with my nervous hand on the EMERGENCY brake, drive the 1.5 mile winding road, home, with the skill, and confidance of a 16 year old.
If nothing else, they are driving in one of the safest cars ever built. Tom
