I drink for one reason and one reason alone...to get drunk. For that, wine simply will not do...only Cuervo will. Besides that, I really don't care for the taste of wine.

Thank god there's someone else like me!!! I didn't want to say it and be the only one... I don't mind a glass of wine at dinner or something like that, but you can almost bet that within an hour of that glass of wine I'm gonna be trying to find some beer to satisy my Aussi craving for Alcohol!!!

And, no, Ron. You won't find it in a box.

Despite my reputation, deservedly I admit, as a connoisseur of rotgut, I, as does Mr. Aredub, actually enjoy a decent Spatlase from anywhere in Deutchland, as I spent a few years over there back when I still had a viable liver. However, when decanting over the rocks as I'm doing while I convey this message, I find a good November or December Almaden of pink hue, does the job. Please note the emergence, from Australia, of "good" wines being offered in the boxed format, as finally the world is catching on to the freshness offered by the plastic bag, verses the skunkiness resulting from a foul cork.

Ron (Can we have more wine threads)?

Italian wine - merlot for sipping, pinot grigio for dinner, pinot noir for both. All good. Can't go wrong with a bottle of italian wine.

In the box we go for either a merlot or cabernet from cali.

Last year just before I left for Africa I was trying to work under the car, I thought it was just the cold and the time, almost 1 AM, but when I get inside I discovered something, 3 empty bottles, as it turns out my one glass was bottomless thanks to a friend then I understood why that glass wouldn't get empty!

I used to be good friends with Jose, I could drink it straight, but I moved on to smoother stuff now, but not drinking right now Can you say Black Russian? Try 2 followed by a bottle of wine

It is my understanding that Merlot is a red from France (originally) although we can get them from Italy, California or Australia. Chianti would be the italian red. They are a little lighter than Merlot and matches with more items (fish/meat etc). I personally love merlot as well as a good hearty pinot grigio depending on my mood.

My Choice

After being stationed in Germany for 4 years I grew very fond of the Riesling Spatlese and Auslese from the Mosel-Saar-Ruwer. There was a couple of growers that we would visit often and buy directly from them. One was in the town of Mehring, his last name was Sabastiani. The other was in Thornich, and had the last name of Ludwig. Both were excellent. The wines from Sabastiani tended to be a little more fruity, and the ones from Ledwig had a little bit of a cleaner/crisp taste.

Once I got back to the states I had a hard time finding ones that I liked as much as the ones I had been getting in Germany. I did find one from Idaho.. Yes.. Idaho.. that was very close. It was Ste. Chapelle Winery.

I am not much of a fan of red wine, but I do like some of the red zins. Rancho Zabaco Dancing Bull is one that I can think of that I like. It has a bit of a peppery taste with a lto of zip.

Unfortunatly being stuck in Ankara until July 1st my choices are limited. I have tried a couple of the Turkish wines, but they are not up to par with the Germans.

Chris

That's no photochop - I took that picture myself at the reading meet.
That is Ron's custom box-o-wine dispenser rear wing.
The color is due to it being night and I took it with my videocam on nightshot then pulled the picture from the video.
