Theres no way you can dis the styling of cars from the 50's and 60's. They all had there own style and look, unlike the cars now a days. You can hardly tell the difference between an Impala and a Malibu now.

I agree with Junior, Lee. GM's line-up change over from '58 to '59 was arguably about the most radical ever done. Fins were THE THING to have, & Chevy, Buick & Caddy showed the way. My dad, & a few years later, I, owned a '59 Olds. I drove mine from coast to coast & back again in '64, and I must say, in a straight line, that 20 foot long barge rivaled a Pullman sleeper car for comfort. I was a buck private in the army making $92.00 PER MONTH. Sleeping in cars was a lifestyle back then. Ah...more memories. Ron.

re: 59 Impala
I guess it's a "to each his own" thing.
When I was around 12 I started doodling Ferrari's during school, and when I turned 16 and got the 59 Chevy, reality just didn't live up to my fantasy. Of course, it didn't help that I had an uncle who drove an XK-140 (I think) and his wife had an MG TD. That MG had a ride about as far away from the US boulevard cruisers as one could get - cobblestone/brick paved roads (a few of which were still around) were a unique experience in her MG. I used to bug her to death for rides. |

"NITRO-ACID, YELLOW-GREEN
The color Sub Lime was first offered on 1970 model Mopars (1970 also being the first year Challenger model). It was available on any model Mopar, all the way from a lowly Dart slant-6, to a mighty Hemi 'Cuda. Being a 1970 model year option, this means it applied to cars built from the fall of '69 forward. The color was officially discontinued after the 1971 model year, although a few odd-ball, special order jobs found their way off the assembly line up until the 1974 model year. Also, the color was known as "Sub Lime" when ordered on a Dodge, and "Lime-Lite Poly" when ordered on a Plymouth. It is hard to notice unless you see the two side by side, but there is a distinct difference between "Sub Lime" and NYG. When I park my NYG next to my Sub Lime Challenger, the neon suddenly looks very yellow, and the Challenger's color looks more like the inside of a cucumber. NYG has much more of a yellowish-tint than does Sub Lime. It becomes VERY noticeable when the two cars are photographed together. In photos, the neon looks yellow while the Challenger looks more like Mint Green. The colors are still similar, and I have no doubt that Chrysler introduced NYG in order to bring back the fond memories people had of seeing Sub Lime warriors prowling the early '70's American streets." http://www.nygclub.org/ Check it out. It isn't supposed to be 'macho', its supposed to be different. I wanted an NYG for a long time.. you never EVER lose them in the parking lot. When they're clean and it's sunny out it literally burns your retinas to look at. - Rob |

I had one of these as my 1st car. It seemed very attractive in those days but it has aged about as well as I have.

I doodled "wedge" shaped cars, when I was in the sixth grade (around 1967). Imagine how pissed I was in later life when Triumph stole my design (TR7/8). I'm sorry, but I don't consider them (TR7/8) to be ugly either.
