It's good to know there is a vehicle that is available for me since I'm climbing rocks and crossing lakes so much in my every day life. I used to live and still work in Redmond aka MS hq and yuppie land. There are a lot of H1's and H2's on the roads every day. H1 are awesome and the ultimate off road vehicle, I have no doubt. I would own one if I had a Jay Leno type car collection and was into off roading or starting my own paramilitary force. But on the every day roads the things are just too dang big and a bit unsafe for everyone outside of them.
You guys hit it on the H2, there are some pretty ones here, but at the core they are definitely in the minor leagues compared to their big brother. But, hey, GM is marketing them good, the yuppies are buying for the image and getting a better road-riding vehicle so more power to them I guess. They are making money off them and it all comes down to buisness. A sucker born every minute and all that. Anyway, we drive SVXes. ANY truck, SUV, anything, be it a H1 or a "lowly" GMC pickup, is going to "win" in a collision against us. That's why the key is avoiding collisions!

I'm pretty sure H1s do not 'float'. The military versions have a stack intake so they can drive in water thats pretty deep, but I really really really doubt they 'float'.

Only if a river is small enough that it can touch the ground with its tires and keep the snorkel above the waterline.

However, accident statistics show that drivers and passengers in these vehicles suffer the worst injuries and the most deaths. This is because they are built for strength, not to crumple up and absorb impact. Also they are many many times more likely to roll over, with the implications that has for passenger safety. They also have more weight and poorer brakes, and are unable to scrub off that crucial 40 mph when the chips are down and trouble is unavoidable. If you drive these things like you are in a tank and nothing can hurt you, be aware that the statistics show a very different story. I agree with Troy 150%, the best accident to be involved with is the one you just avoided because you have dynamically the best car and a fine tuned sense of self preservation! Joe
