This is what i think we're looking at...release tab on opposite side.

Re: Power Mode Selection

I believe you are correct, however I think the male pins from the mating connector insert in the red dots shown below. Which would mean that the release tab that is "opposite" would be where the nail is, is that correct?

It has been a few years since I did this mod...

Re: Power Mode Selection

It's my belief that the red dots are where the tool is supposed to slide in to depress the tab. I won't know for sure until someone shows me the female connector. It's my experience that the lock tab is on the opposite side of where the terminal "teeth" bend around and bite into the wire.

I de-pinned A6(brown with black stripe) from the connector and put it into A4. At first, I thought I had failed and called upon Nomake for support. However, my car was half up on jackstands, so I didn't want to start it. It works just as he thought it would. Put in D, 3, or 2, and you have power mode as long as the manual switch is pushed in. The only thing is, as I pointed out to him, the manual switch is wired directly to the manu. light on the dashboard so when you're in power mode, the manu. light is also on.

So, for those who don't know. To de-pin the harness, first undo the clips on the side. Then there's a flap that folds out. This will allow you to get the pin out after you release the locking mechanism. Now I found a safety pin works good for unlocking it. To unlock the pin, with the connector facing you as it would plug in to the TCU, insert the pin into the big open area as close to the metal pin as possible. You should not get too far before you can feel a little lip. You need to get under the lip, then just gently pull the wire out from the backside, or push a second safety pin into the tiny slot in the front of the connector, and push the pin out.
Does ANYONE have a photo of this released terminal? I've tried this in every slot down the row and it's worked on none of them. 2 jewelers screwdrivers, 1 safety pin, 1 finishing nail and 1 long male spade......zilch.

Re: Power Mode Selection

I am not really sure what you need. Do you need to know how to seperate the connector? If the tab should be pressed or lifted to release? Or are talking about removing the wire from the plug?

Re: Power Mode Selection

If i can see the actual connector on the end of the brown and black wire,,i can see which way to release it.

Re: Power Mode Selection

So... Thread bump! Would I be able to use an illuminated push on/off switch for the power mode mod?

Re: Power Mode Selection

Although I have not done this mod, I always thought that using the foot--activated, floor mounted headlight switch (like in the older cars to control high beams) would be ideal.

No cutting or drilling, completely reversible, and the ease of not having to move your hands from the wheel to activate. It would also be easy to run a separate LED anywhere to show when it was activated. Putting a small LED into the blank dummy switch location where the hazard flasher resides would be an option

Two hands on the wheel, left foot taps the switch, right foot mashes the gas and ...
Just a thought.
