Alternatives for the fake wood dash

I could live with the original fake wood dash, but the bit in the drivers door panel has cracked a bit so I need to repair it any way and in the same process I will damage the fake wood. I have now searched the internet for some sort of nice coating alternative, I have looked at water transfer printing, old school wood grain painting, carbon fiber/ CF vinyl wrapping, but the best alternative I think is to have the panels painted professorially of course with a soft feel paint (the one found on cell phones etc.), probably in a color that blends in and looks sort of original, maybe like a luxury variant of the simpler grey panels. What do you think? any more ideas?

Re: Alternatives for the fake wood dash

I painted mine as I hated the fake CF stickers that were placed over them. If you properly prepare (sand, clean, paint, clearcoat) you do not need to have this done professionally. Not quite finished with all the trim in the pic below, but you get the idea- it's a gray, lighter but complimentary to the Alcantara:

Re: Alternatives for the fake wood dash

I really like them both, and my second option is to do the cf wrap. I personally think it works better to apply something other than wood grain since the center console has a bit of non wood shape to it with its square boxy a bit badly aligned pattern, compare it to good examples like and old Jaguar with much better flow and of course it's genuine wood. Still like the shape of it but it will never be a convincing wood grain. I guess its time consuming to fix the issue with the text on the ac panel but worth doing. Good tho that the text is sort of a bit grooved so you have chance to mask it or similar. I would like to see an example of Di-noc vinyl wraped wood grain on a SVX but my guess it would look so so, maybe I'll try it just to be sure ;-)

Re: Alternatives for the fake wood dash

What brand / type of paint did you use ? Primer to adhere to the plastic first, or plastic-friendly paint ?

Did you tape off the whole dash except for the dash pieces ?

Wouldn't you take them out instead of tape them off?

Re: Alternatives for the fake wood dash

Sand the shine off, primer, then paint. After the paint dried hard, I used a matte finish top coat.

Re: Alternatives for the fake wood dash

I am actually planning on painting my console the main pearl of the outside of my car or the the black part of the two tone. Should be pretty easy, and when I do it I'm going ahead and replacing my radio with a double din unit while the console is out.
