new rotors

Now I'm sure this has been asked before, but I just got a new set of rotors off ebay. Should I get them turned before I put them on or are they ready to go?
Thanks,
David

Re: new rotors

They are ready to install but need to be de-greased with some brake kleen.

I found this site very helpful when I put my new brakes on.

Re: new rotors

im assuming you also have new pads?
if so i recommend breaking in the brakes before doing much driving
get going around 60+ mph and then hit your brakes hard (not hard enough for the ABS to kick in), until you reach about 40 mph
Do this multiple times, around 3-6
then drive around a bit to let the rotors cool off
BUT DO NOT STOP WITH YOUR BRAKES PRESSED
inch your way home using your emergency brake
this should ensure your brakes work well, esp. from that point on

just a little something i do

The emergency brake shoes on an SVX are NOT INTENDED to stop the car except in an emergency, and they are very expensive dealer-only items. I few good hard stops, and a short (~5 minute) highway cruise should be sufficient to seat the pads in.

Re: new rotors

Turning rotors is a rare thing with modern cars. Factory rotors are made as thin as practical to save weight, so if they're turned, even though they are still above the min thickness spec, the weight loss will make the rotors become heat soaked MUCH faster, leading to nasty brake pulsation, etc.

Like Micheal said, some brake/parts cleaner and a quick wipe to get the storage grease off, and fire away.
