Help! Sun Visors Wiring Destroyed
Hey guys, I just got my hands on a pair of sunvisors for my car... the old ones were sagging and the little lights weren't working because the little cables broke.
So I go and install my new visors.. the left side (passenger seat - RHD car) was toooooo easy and the light worked and everything was really good... too good. Then I go and do the drivers side (right side) one and take off the old sun visor and it turns out that the positive and negative touched at some stage a while ago and KABLAMO!!! the cable had burnt so much that it was disconnected from the sun visor AND the white clip on connector to connect a new sun visor was melted and crumbled in my hand. If i wanna fix this i need to take off the black leather pillar covering that's between the front windscreen and window (if the car door is closed). I was trying to pull on the pillar cover and it wouldn't budge at all. Can someone please explain to me how to take the cover off????? At this stage I don't know how far down the pillar the wire has burnt up but I still see some sparks when the positive and negative touch inside the actual roof. I can't and don't want to drive the car because if I go over a bump and the positive and negative touch again it could make the problem worse and potential fire. The strange thing is obviously no fuse blew and the light on the other sun visor that i've installed on the other side works perfectly. Can someone please help me out? Thanks, Jordan. Re: Tried To Install New Sun Visors
My first recomendation will be to disconect the battery before the entire car sets on fire.... Or check if there's a fuse you can remove.

Re: Tried To Install New Sun Visors
Yeah of course, but the whole point of a fuse is to stop these things from short circuiting and it still short circuited so the car must have the wrong fuse connected.
I really need some sort of pictures or explanation of how take the cover off the pillar where I'm guessing the cable runs down. Please helpppp!! |

Re: Tried To Install New Sun Visors
There are 5 clips holding on the trim piece, just pull a little harder. Start from the vertical end and work your way to the windshield but watch out at the end of it are "pawls" to keep it in place.....don't break'em off. Good luck and disconnect your battery ASAP

Re: Tried To Install New Sun Visors
to answer the questions:
Yank on the pilar trim harder. dont pull it down though, pull it out. (Pull direction horizontal not verticle) And that appears to be dielectric greese...nothing wrong there wolfy

Re: Tried To Install New Sun Visors
OK so I yanked on the pillar cover. I got the pillar cover off but snapped about 3 of the clips!!!!
AHHHHHH! The melted/blown fuse from under the bonnet is completely unrelated to this post. The fuse for the sun visors are on the kick panel next to the drivers feet. I'll post pics of my unsuccesful and frustrating pillar |
