question about tranny

I recently bought a 94 svx lsi with 107,000 miles on it and don't know if the tranny fluid and filter have ever been changed do youe think it is agood or bad idea to change it? Also should I change the exterior filter to an after market filter? Thanks for any input

Good Morning Almostdone.
Welcome to The Club!

You can never change out the transmission fluit too much, IF you drain and refill without a pressure flush!

If you remove the drain plug and allow the car to sit for two hours you can get as much as six quarts out of it.

Four will come out in a rush, so if you are in a hurry just replace what you drain (bringing it back to the fill line.)

A Subaru factory in-pan filter is only thirty something dollars so its alot cheaper than a tranny.

As far as the aftermarket filter goes, just make sure that you have the flow the correct way, or you can burn out the transmission.

Are you coming to Reading?

Thanks for the reply the reason I asked is because I know sometimes if the tranny fluid and filter has never been changed you can be opening a can of worms so to speak. I have always religiously changed the tranny fluid and filter in my other vehicles but I have owned them since they were new so I knew they had been done.

I have never heard of bad things happening because of a drain and fill.

A power flush on the other hand can dislodge debris, and has been associated with a high level of transmission failures.

as a quick chime in, so a power flush isn't recommended? What if your rebuilding your tranny? Would be advised at that time to make everything really spick and span? Seeing as how the thing is going to be apart anyways.

IF you are going to rebuild the trans, then, sure washing it out with a proper cleaning solutions great .
