Who's imported a car to Canada?

I know there are people here who've done it. Could you give me a break down on how that goes through? 92 and most 93 SVXi are exempt from the Canadian requirements (they're 15+ years old), so I don't have to worry about that, but how about the US Customs requirements? Anyone feel like breaking those down for me?

Sooner or later (Possibly sooner) I WILL be buying an SVX, probably from the States, so I'd like to have things figured out before I do.

Yup, I've looked at that. That's the Canadian program that 15+ year old cars are exempt from. I've e-mailed them too. All I need to do on this end is prove the date of manufacture.

Talk to Chris Gooderham (CDG) about this. He bought my 92 Pearlie back in February 2003 (when she was 11 yrs.old) and drove it from Baltimore, MD to vancouver, BC.

He did not seem to have any problems with Canadian registration. He also had to configure the circuit to get the Daytime Running Lights (DRL's)

Yes, I did this a couple of years ago. As I recall, I had to give advance notice to US Customs of my intention to convey the vehicle...about 48 hours notice. If memory serves, there was a form and a fee ($30) involved. When I arrived at the border, a US agent visually inspected the vehicle's VIN...no big deal.

Pilot, as you are likely aware, once in Canada you will need to have SVX inspected. I used a local Canadian Tire, and got treated OK. The mechanic and I reached agreement that the DRL's requirement can satisfied without modification, just by keeping the master light switch turned on.

But...a few months later, I received from Transport Canada a strongly-worded letter threatening all sorts of hell and damnation on me because, as it turns out, Canadian Tire had not faxed them the completed inspection form. It all got sorted in the end of course...though it was useful that I had retained all the paperwork
