Throttle Control Sensor
My check engine light came on the other day… I went by Auto Zone this afternoon for their free diagnostic check..
The guy said it reads a “121” on his box, he says it’s the throttle control sensor?… Anyone ever had this trouble…. Or know where it’s located??? How hard to replace? Thanks, Bill |

I think this is called the Throttle Position Sensor. Do a search for Throttle Position Sensor and TPS. Also check out the how-to by svx_commuter

You are welcome.
Let us know. What did you fix? What was your car doing since it had a bad TPS? I am not familar with auto zone. Did they hook up a "scan tool" for the free diagnostic? FYI It is also possible to run the diagnostics yourself. It's built into the SVX. |

Svx_commuter,
I have a ’96 Lsi, the only problem I noticed (other than the check engine light) was a slightly rough idle. AutoZone is an auto parts chain in Alabama, (I'm not sure about other states?) they offer a free diagnostic check with a device that plugs into the connector in the dash. I guess with the assumption that you’ll buy the parts from them. I followed the steps in your post; marked the TPS (so I’d put it back correctly), cleaned it several times with carburetor/choke cleaner, dried it with my air compressor and replaced. The check engine light doesn’t come on anymore and it idles smooth!!! Thanks again, Bill BTW- where do you live in N. Jersey? I lived in Leonia for 16 years, before my dad transferred to AL in 1970… |
