5 speed swap coming really soon, need parts list
I am going to have to bite the bullet on this one. I am going to take out a loan for $5000. I am going to pay off the SVX, which I owe $1500 on. I am going to take my car to Idaho Speed Center. This shop is very good as far as reputation and I think if they can tune and work on Skylines, they might be good enough to swap in my trans.
So what I'm looking for is a parts list of everything that I will need for the swap, and from what cars to source the remaining parts that they cannot order in. From what I understand, they will be able to get the trans, diff, and pedal assembly. I do have a question about the trans however. They said they can get the JDM trans from a WRX. Is this compatible at all? If not, a USDM will be aquired. They will also utilize local outsourcing for parts such as a driveshaft and what have you. Thanks in advance to everyone. I hope to join the club by next weekend.

Ok, I have read some walkthroughs about doing the swap. I have the understanding that I have to use a rear differential from a WRX if I plan on using the 5 speed. Is there no way I can keep the SVX gearing?
Also, from the looks of it, it appears that the 6 speed swap from an STI is easier. Can anyone clarify this.

read a little closer next time... You do not need to touch the rear diff if you are using an 02-05 wrx 5mt. They have the same gearing. All other 5mt's require rear diff swaps
The 6mt is not easier in any sense. There is much more going on in the shifter w/ the reverse lockout mechanism, the r180 and rear axles also need to be used, unless you want to use an R160 rear with 3.90 gears. Its all here, just keep looking and you will get it. I am doing another 5mt now so if you want, I will try and do some step by step dialogues Tom |
