Question SVX & Car seats

Is it possible to place a car seat in the back of an SVX? If so what kind will or will not fit.
It would be nice not to have to switch car to go pick up my daughter. I would love to pick her up in my SVX.

Steve

one must fit, as there are factory-provided anchors for kid seats in the rear deck...
-Bill (okay, so I'm using the one on the driver's side for the harnesses on my 5 point belt )

Steve, do a search. I know I had trouble finding a infant/toddler seat that would fit (must have something with less of an angle). I think I ended up with the Secca or something like that. Its hideous and was cheap but it was also the third highest rated by Consumer Reports a couple years ago.

The anchor is the back of the speaker grill (or maybe the front). I thought SVXs came with 'em but if you don't have the ancor latch stuff then your dealer should be able to order it. I think its the same from like the XT on though so its probably in stock for under $10.

Thumbs up

Yes, a car seat will fit in an SVX! I just baby-sat my cousin's 1-year-old today, and my cousin secured her car seat in my SVX's backseat for transportation. I don't know what the brand is, but if I remeber, I can ask her. The seatbelt looped through an opening near the bottom of the seat, so this type of car seat relies on a seatbelt, not a special anchor to hold it in place. But if you're talking about an older kid with a different kind of car seat, I have no experience with that.

I'm a child passenger safety technician and a child restraint systems specialist. The SVX tends to be tricky for car seats.

Only 1997s have locking seat belts, all other years need a locking clip which comes on the back of the seat. Locking clips aren't easy and almost guarantee a hard install, take the seat to a CPST and have them help you install it (request they show you how to do it and make sure you know how do it yourself, some tech will just put the seat in and send you on your way, you need to know how to do it yourself)

Cosco\Safety 1st\Eddie Bauer (all same manufacturer) dont fit forward facing. The seat slope doesn't allow the seat to fit properly on the bench. (i have photos to show why but they are hiding from me right now) Most seats with a flip down foot for recline wont fit properly. Try to find a seat with a pedestal style of base, they fit the best and wont mar the leather as much.

Britax seats fit the best but are expensive. They dont require locking clips because they have built in lock offs (well worth the 200 dollars) and most of them go up to 65 lbs with the harness which is also well worth the cost.

How old is your daughter? What kind of seat does she ride in other cars?

She is almost 2. The seat she is in now is an Eddie Bauer. It is in a Mitsu Montaro Sport.

What are these clips and what is a CPST?

Ahh, just as i feared. The eddie bauer seats dont fit the svx, its physically impossible to install one correctly forward facing. You're going to need to get another seat for her to ride in the SVX (but after seeing how to install one in an SVX i assure you you would want to get another anyway.) I STRONGLY suggest the britax marathon, it has a 65 lb weight limit which means she could be in kindergarten before needing another seat and wont go in a booster seat before she is emotionally ready, it also installs so easily in the SVX you wouldnt believe it.

A CPST is a person who has had 40+ hours of training on how to teach parents to install and use their car seat properly. Generally they are cops and firefighters but sometimes you get lucky and will have a volunteer close by (which is better IMO. The cops only do it because they have to and tend to do a poorer job. ) Our job it to attempt to reduce the nationwide 98% misuse of car seats.

The locking clip is the small metal piece which is put on the belt to hold it tight once you put the seat in a belt that doesnt lock. Here's a link that describes how. Scroll down to the portion that say's "using a locking clip" since you already know you'll need one.

She is SO cute, can i borrow her just for a little while?
