TCU shift maps

OK. Here's something for you to speculate about.

On a UK/Euro/Aussie SVX, if you ground pin a4 of the TCU, it enables "Economy Mode", a different shift map designed for those of us who have to pay upwards of $5 a gallon.

On a JDM SVX, if you ground pin a4, it enables "Power Mode", we all know how much fun that can be

Pin a4 is not connected on a USA SVX, but what would happen if it were? Would it activate "Power Mode", is there a secret "Economy Mode" lurking in your TCU that Subaru never implemented? Would it just do nothing?

What do you think?

I was thinking along the lines that US owners might be able to make a power mode switch by grounding pin a4 rather than messing with the TPS signal. It would certainly be worth a try to ground that pin and see if the shift map changes.

Considering the Euro and JDM are more alike than either of the two and the USDMs, and considering the E and J specs are different in this case, I would think if we were to ground pin a4 nothing would happen, especially since you say it is not connected out of the box.
