Possible 5 speed in the making!!!
I recently acquired a 1985 Subaru GL wagon. The whole car runs but needs a new carb and some body work. Shouldn't be too much of a pain to fix, but in the unlikely event that it turns into more of a waste of money than is feasible to fix it up, will the 5 speed out of it bolt up to the SVX, or are legacy transmissions easier to work with.
CAN IT BE DONE???? Keith

It has a diffrent bolt pattern and i think it wont bolt up. The trannie is spose to be very similar to the newer 5spd subaru uses it may even be basicly the same. There is a converter you can buy to hook up a ej/eg up to a older style trannie (forgot the engine code right now). I would go with a newer 5spd from a 1st gen legacy or newer, the gear ratios should work better and you know it would bolt up easily, plus there a farily cheap trannie to buy you should be able to buy one under $100 if you look around, i got mine for $60.
