Re: Grille Light Modification.

While EVOs are on the plate... The most recent iteration doesn't offer much to my eye when sitting still, but when they're under way on an autocross course, they're some magical eye candy. I can't explain it.

like some cars (i'm weird like this), i think the EVO only looks good in certain colors.

the GSR has a black center bumper cover, while the MR's have a graphite colored one. i really only like the all-black EVO's, or the gray or silver with the MR bumper color, because it minimizes the "gaping catfish mouth" look.

I call it the "there's a hole in your face" look, whether on the EVO, GT-R, or any Audi family member.

Many women never liked the 97 grille in my pearlie. One said it "looked like the mouth of a catfish just waiting for a hook"

She went on to say she much preferred the waterfall grille. She said every time she saw it, it seemed to be "smiling" at her.

She was right, took the 97 grille back out And never looked back.

for SVX's, all black with '97 grille. doesn't stand out as much, best looking SVX, IMO.

You are missing the point on these cars. Of coarse they are "just' a Lancer or "just" an Impreza.

These cars were/are made to qualify for homologation into Group A or FIA Rally competition. So to qualify, the competing car has to be one of 2,500 made of the competing version, AND has to be part of 25,000 made of the parent car. So for an STi it has to be part of the Impreza range to compete.

Now over the years Subaru used STi as a separately controlled entity to build the versions for competition and sales. Now the cars are, for the most part, made right on the line with other Imprezas.

And it's not just the engine... that is really only 30% of it. The rest is drive train, aerodynamics, and suspension. The STi drive train has some serious engineering.

With these cars... after getting behind the wheel you don't care what it looks like. All you know that they are a blast to drive.

That's what they said back in 1992 when the SVX first hit the streets.

It didn't fit into the category of "it's just a... "

There was nothing like it on the road.

Re: Grille Light Modification.

I loved that post, I hadn't laughed that hard in a while (Thanks Alan) but it needs some serious updating. There are far more douchier cars on the road now. I mean, can anyone say "Scion"?

while you're at it, strap on some nice Recaro seats, Bilstein shocks, Eibach springs, big Brembo brakes, an AWD system with active yaw control, and probably the most advanced transmission this side of a six figure supercar. FWIW, i not only enjoy driving it every day, i make excuses to go drive it. it would be one thing if all it did was go fast in a straight line, but it has all the bases covered.

the only thing open to debate may be the styling, but i happen to like it. don't forget, the styling of your SVX and Tribeca are only appreciated by a small minority. pot kettle something something.

i don't want to sit here defending EVO's like someone did with Dodge Neons ( ), but your stupid is showing.

i have no idea why the Mustang is included in this test , but to beat a lightweight go-cart like the Miata in a handling shootout is pretty impressive.

You think Scions are douchy? You have got to be kidding me. The only way a Scion could be douchy is if it is 1 of 2200 and BRIGHT Yellow, that would make it douchy.

Thanks for the comment SVX1999
