Unhappy *sniff* (bad news)

Bad news for me and my car...

The Story:
I was dropping off a friend at work when someone backed up directly into my driver's door. I was stationary (in park) in front of the doors to our work. She was backing out of one of the visitor parking stalls, failed to look and backed up straight into my door.

The door and probably the handle will need to be replaced. (again)

Fortunately her insurance will be covering all the charges. (I don't think they could assign any fault to me on this but I'm sure they would try)

I'll be taking my car to the same place that fixed it last time so that they can fix the mistakes they made the first time. (they tore the weatherstripping and tried to repair the small plastic part that attaches the power window cable to the window assembly)

For those who don't know, I had an accident last December involving a snowdrift, a curve and a traffic light (pics in locker). The result was the whole driver's side of the car was replaced/repainted. It is this new door that will need to be replaced. The previous accident had my car out of commission for over 3 months!!!

I'll be taking some pics of the new damage today and will post them either tonight or tomorrow.

I still plan on attending the 10th Anniversary Meet next month if all goes well. (I'll take the Justy if I have to)

AAARRRGGGHHHH!!! Was she in an SUV? This was the same scenario as when the guy in the Ford "Excretion" backed into my left front fender. While standing in the pouring rain, "I just didn't see you." He said. "Obviously." I replied.

The sad thing is, alls he would have had to do, was to look into his gigantic, movie screen-sized, side mirror to have seen me.

I've been looking for a project brat for a while. They are ugly but I'd love to have one. The rear facing seats and T-tops are cool.

OMG!!!

Dave,
I can't believe it!!! You must have had the cloaking device activated.
I certainly hope you can get it back in shape for the meet. But I'm glad that you'll still come even if you don't have the SVX.

BTW the car that backed over my heart...errr...into my SVX was a red 1991 Cavalier 2dr. I don't think that car would be worth fixing.

I'm not mad at the driver of the Cavalier as I have almost made the same mistake once before. I am upset at what happened though.

Upon closer inspection I noticed that the door crinkled and put a small dent in the rear quarter right where the vehicle ID plate is located. I have documented the damage with my digital camera and will post some sadness when I get back from the little visit to the insurance company at 11:50AM this morning. I would post now except I'm not using my computer at this moment.

Anyone want to wager what the cost to repair the damages will be? I'm figuring it will be in the area of CAD$2500 (or USD$1600)

p.s. I think I need a hug

Pictures

As promised...here's the links to the pictures of the damage:

800x600 collection (low bandwidth):
http://dcss.dhs.org/pics/svx/2002.06.17_accident/800/

1600x1200 collection (high detail):
http://dcss.dhs.org/pics/svx/2002.06.17_accident/1600/

(If the links don't work then my ISP is most likely playing with my account. Please let me know)

I'll scan the insurance sheets later this evening with the damage breakdown.

I didn't even realise I had my cloaking device activated! In fact I don't even know how to activate/deactivate it. All I did was pull up to the front doors of my work to let someone out of my car, put it in Park then she backed in to me about 10 seconds later.

Maybe the switch for the cloaking device is somehow tied in to the shifter?

Dave, I'm sorry to hear of your accident, i hope you get it sorted out soon. I couldn't resist saying this though so please bare with me.
There are too many idiots with SUVs. Most will never take the damn things on a dirt road in their life, don't tow or haul anything, and they don't need the extra room. The only purpose owning an SUV serves them is wasting gas and being the biggest car on the road. So why do people insist on buying these oversized, accident prone, vehicles? I just don't get it.

Dave
