Standalone ECU

I know Bob (on NASIOC) is using on in the EG33 swapped Impreza RS but what has to be done to the car for use one in the SVX. Is it possible or is the option available in swapped cars only?

surely it is possible. The biggest hurdle is getting over the need to keep the TCU functional... cdgirlando has an AEM unit in his car I believe running an auto. In the short future I will be looking to adapt an undecided unit to my 6mt, but that won't help keeping the automatic transmission at all.... Maybe Chuck could shed more light on it for people who want one and request to keep the auto

Whether it's a standalone unit for the MT or AT, I think it would be a huge leap for us. My only reason in asking was the concern of having to remove any emissions related components. In Arkansas, we don't have to pass emissions; however, I know there are a lot of members here that have to pass them. I'm not concerned with having to pass them and I would assume eliminating the need of them as well as the TCU would make a standalone unit more feasible. Correct me if I'm wrong though.

I always thought the TCU was a separate unit. Wouldn't it's functions and those of the ECU be seperate?

I suppose it would need to know some values FROM the ECU though, so it can decide what to do with the tranny...

So you're just trying to figure out what it needs to know, so you can keep it in place?

Can't you just like... trace common wires from a diagram, and just tap into whichever sensors or wires that are used from the original ECU?

I guess it sounds MUCH easier online than in real life though. lol

In the oz cars the TCU gets its speed signal direct from the sender. Here there is a guy using Motec 6000 on a couple of SVX engine he has build for drag cars.
