Hella Supertones!

I just bought a set and I'm trying to figure out where to mount them. The traditional behind the grille location the Impreza guys use doesn't work on the SVX (too tight). I searched and found someone had installed a set, but I don't know how long it's been since they were online. Sooo, has anyone installed a set, and if so, where did you put the horns?

I can't wait to get these running. 118 dB ought to be plenty to get people's attention.

I think this is what SVXcess has?? I know he installed an aftermarket horn.

Yes I did install the Supertones. I took out the old horns to make room and mounted one horn on each side of the engine bay.

Ah, awesome. What is the pass side on attached to though?

It is an aluminum L-shaped bracket, with one hole to mount the horn and the hole at the other
end using an existing bolt.




Once they are tightened down, the aluminum is flexible enough to allow for some minor bending
to allow them not to touch anything and vibrate.

I also used a 30A relay and a 20A inline fuse to allow for maximum current flow and circuit protection

Great, thanks. I've already got all the wiring, connectors, etc to make it work. The stock horns in my SVX are absolutely pathetic, whether by design or age. This should make a nice change.

The quality of these horns is first-rate, Solid metal construction and very durable. Low profile to fit in tight spaces. These horns are made in Germany and of high quality. I have used these horns on other cars and was always pleased (and sometimes svxcess is very hard to please)


Here are wiring diagrams I created to show the circuitry. One unexpected added benefit is the additional relay in the circuit softens the "chirp" of the arming and disarming of the alarm system. Some of the energy used to chirp the horns briefly is absorbed by the activation of the added relay.

But when the horn is activated normally, or through the setting off of the alarm... WATCH OUT!!!

how difficult is this on a scale of 1 - 10, 10 being the most difficult...I would like to do this, but am not all too familiar with wiring schematics and rigging something like this up...

If 1 is changing a wiper blade and 10 is rebuilding an automatic transmission, I'd give this a 2 or 3. Most people are just afraid of working with wires, once you give it a shot it isn't hard at all. Crimp-on quick connectors make life easy.

There's some pretty terrible instructions included, but there's a very good how-to on NASIOC. I'll see if I can find it again.
