Thumbs up Cardone rebuilds these.

Price delivered for 21-5882 from RockAuto.com was $165.91 with a $50 core to be refunded.

Lifetime Cardone warranty, too.

I just pulled all three return hoses (@$1.59 per foot) and the high pressure hose. There is a local hydraulic shop that says they can probably test & rebuild it for much less than the factory price.

It actually looks to be in real good shape. I'll let the experts decide...

Don't know yet if the rack assembly is leaking BUT the wheels turn from left to right like silk when the car is up on the rack. Drives ok on the freeway, too. Just gotta' get used to the warning lights for "steering, battery, anti-lock, etc." since the belt is disconnected. The mechanic did not advise using the belt because the pump can run dry and seize, making it no good as a core.

Cheers!

p.s. WHY DO THEY ALWAYS put the hose clamps on with the fasteners pointing AWAY from the logical access venue?

If all stated within the thread, is correct and accurate, logistics indicate that the rack is involved. The likely problem will not prevent the rack moving like silk.

Exclamation After pulling the pump...

...I don't really think you are supposed to be able to see the ball bearings moving behind the seal held in by the front circlip, are you?

Please see my question regarding the P/S switch

Cheers!

p.s. To Earl: when I finally get done with this project I should have (at least!) refurbishing the top part of the P/S system down pat!
