Las Vegas style dashboard

Tonight on my way home, I noticed that all the warning lights on my dash would be dimly lit at idle. As soon as I give it gas and get the RPMs up around 1200 the lights go out. If it were just the battery light I would say it was an alt. or battery problem, but with all the lights I'm puzzled. I figure I need to look for a ground problem, but if anyone has any ideas, I'd appreciate hearing them.

Go with your first guess here. If you look around here, what you describe is a very common symptom for a failing alt. If you want to double check, have advanceautozone run a check on it, but yeah, plan on replacing the alt soon.

If you have the ability, a good option is to pull the alt, and have it rebuilt at a good local auto electric shop.

As you had trouble locating the data, here it is ;-

Alternator Fault Causing Flashing Dash Lights

The dash indicator lights test circuit, incorporates blocking diodes to eliminate a sneak circuit which would otherwise exist. In an event involving faults within the alternator rectifier network, alternating current is induced on line. The result is pulses of reverse voltage, which pass the blocking diodes in the test circuit and energise the indicator lights.

from personal experience, don't even bother with a bosch alt. Your best bet is to rebuild the one you have, I bought a bosch and lost my oem to the store for the core charge, three bosch alts later, I bought a used oem on ebay.

How about pushing for more sensible descriptive to headings, for threads asking for technical assistance. It is not helpful having to open all threads in order to ascertain whether the subject matter could be in line with ones particular knowledge.
