I didn't try it after I posted but I just got home, tinkered a bit, turned the starter and floored the gas and she started right up with a lion's roar.

And with the new battery all my starting troubles with the clicking and turning the key back and forth are gone.

I'm thinking the rough start is a leaky injector allowing fuel into the cylinder while the engine is off.

It's not doing that anymore because I have major cranking amps, but I was thinking earlier maybe it wouldn't start because it was just flooded.
