I sent them an email asking about their svx kit. Like the previous posts, it is a 1/4" thick for the intake manifold and throttle body, and comes with new bolts. It's also reasonably priced. I figured since my intake manifold was off, this would be a good time to add them on.

Probably when they changed the gas from R12 to R134.

PHENOLIC Spacers

So.....this mod requires two (2) sets of upper intake manifold gaskets, RIGHT?

Please explain Throttle Body bypass (in kit)...?

THANKS!

P.S. I'm in the middle of a head gasket job....and I want to do any reasonable service, upgrade, or mod that can be done more cheaply because engine will be out....and somewhat apart! THANKS!

The throttle bypass is a metal tube used to join two "coolant hoses" that usually connect to the throttle body, not to cool, but to heat the throttle body, so that it does not ICE UP at high velocity, or high altitude, or in very cold weather.
The phenolic spacers, and coolant bypass are designed to lower the intake manifold temperature, for a more dense, oxygen filled, powerful, air charge into the engine.

Just got my spacer kit in from Outlaw engineering. It was very well packaged and shipped to me pretty quickly. They look a little different than the earlier pic's. It appears that they now have gaskets built in to them. I will try to install them tonight and let you know. Here's a couple of pic's.

Nope, you still need the Subaru gaskets on either side of them. What you're seeing is just the way Outlaw "seals" the phenolic (that, or they've found a different type of phenolic material to use).

Gaskets Now Included!

I spoke to Sean at Outlaw Engineering today, and the phenolic spacers for our SVX engines now come with gaskets in place,(aramid fiber gasket bonded to surface) making it cheaper and easier than before!
You don't have to buy anything else to do this now, and they are much easier to install.
Cool, Thanks Sean!

Tom,
Thanks for checking! I was obviously WRONG in my previous comment. Hope the aramid fiber gasket works out correctly - it will obviously make installation a lot easier.

Jim,
Good news! Make sure they check the "flatness" of the head before they put everything back together. There is a Subaru spec for the "flatness" in the shop manual.
