I'd seen that too, Huck, but - from what source was this info lifted? The interwebs has all sorts of "proof", but I need gospel.

According to the Wiki's footnotes it was "Road And Track's Guide to the New SVX"

Re: True top speed?

I can say without a doubt that any year will happily do 130+. I've had a few 92s, a 94 fwd, and a 97 all up there.
154/155mph was the top speed new for 92's. Some have had 94+ reach above whatever the supposed governed speed over the years so the validity of that is even questionable for the US models.

Re: True top speed?

He doubts 120? My little red DL wagon with a 1.8L did 112. Are you arguing with a 14 year old or a neon owner?

Wink Re: True top speed?

I appreciate all the comments, gents, but my "adversary" maintains that most cable driven speedos become much less accurate when pushed to top end. Once again, I need a truly calibrated, measured "mile" or whatever counts, published (not estimated) by a Car & Driver, Road & Track, or whatever respected authority actually tested the car.

Ron.

Now that I Googled THAT up, does it mean greater accuracy?

Re: True top speed?

It's as mechanically accurate as tire diameter as dictated by size and pressure, Subaru's intentional speedometer calibration and the viewer's parallax allow, give or take a few.

You've got two options if you're using this to win a court case: Use the word "indicated" or get a perfect example on the salt flats.

You've got one option in this scenario: Don't argue with trolls/e-thugs/stubborn & ignorant folks.

Just for askin', what does it matter? Top speed is practically useless as a statistic.

I see you've drifted over to Miata Net. Well, I'd say the thread has been civil, and I'd further say the question was legitimate. I'd brought up the published "estimated" top speeds, but really couldn't find a calibrated flyin' mile report. I agree, top speed is merely for braggin', & nothing more for 99.99% of us, but it makes for topic discussion when you're running out of topics.

Cheers, Ron.

Re: True top speed?

Ron.

I seem to recall that top speed for the '92-'93 SVX as 156 mph. This was either from Car & Driver or Automobile. The '94-'97 SVXes are governed to 143mph.

When my '97 was new I had it up to 137 mph as indicated on the speedo. So it was probably only doing about 130. It had plenty more oomph left so it probably would have topped 140.

Larry! You still exist!

Problem is, as I've mentioned, most (or all) info I've gleaned from publications lists an "ESTIMATED" top speed. I want a Bonneville Salt Flats run!

Ron.
