I just wanted to say hi and stuff...

I just bought a 92 svx with about 85k miles last month. has a decently stranght body besides a huge gash in the hood from something like a sledge hammer.. it had a busted windshield, from the same incident. I'm just gonna ramble for a few minutes here.... So I found a windshield at a junk yard, for 300 bucks, so that was pretty cool considering its a thousand dollar part from subaru. Had a tranny problem, but that was fixed inexpensively as well. Its in pretty decent condition, just needs some minor body work, lots of scratches and scuffs. Its sad to see a car like this taken care of so ****ily. But at the same time I'm enjoying fixing it up because I know its worth it. I've wanted one of these cars for a fairly long time. The radio was crapped out, so I had that replaced. Best buy did some pretty decent work. They hard wired since there was no harness available, but they only charged me 25 bucks for like 3 hours worth of work. That's pretty much it. I have some questions about the car though.

The manual button.. What does it do exactly? Also, the switch next to the parking lights on the dash, towards the bottom, looks like an a/c switch. I feel so stupid asking these questions, but I really can't figure out the functionality of either. When I push the a/c looking switch, it doesn't light up or anything, but half the lights on the dash aren't functioning, as well as the lights on the interior light buttons on the roof.

Oh yeah, and one problem I've been having with it is the drivers side door sensor... Always flickering the interior lights. That's getting very annoying. Is there any way to fix this?

I'm sure I'll have more questions, but right now these are the things that are most baffling me

Welcome to the site dude. I'm guessing you have the touring package and the AC looking botton should be the side mirror heater switch, you shouldn't need that till winter. The manual botton basiclly allows you to take off in second gear if your in slippery conditions, pretty useless in an AWD car. I'm not sure about the door switch, with only 85k miles on the car it shouldn't be worn out already. Has the car been in an accident? It may not be adjusted right.

manual button on the shifter keeps the tranny from downshifting, avoiding trouble on slippery suffaces. overkill on an AWD car?....you decide.

the "AC" switch you are referring to is probably either the power mirror controls (to the left of the parking/fog light switches, or the "wiper park" rocker switch, lower down under the dash (parks wipers higher up on the window so they don't get frozen to the cowl area).

door sensor - hit it with contact cleaner, replace if that don't help?

hope that helps, but do a search for more info. good luck getting it "back to new", and welcome!

If you have an owners manual, read it. I didn't know half of the stuff that was on the car until I did that. It really helps to get familiar with the car. If you don't have one, I can tell you where you can get one. Have fun!

Our contradicting first posts. How does a power mirror switch look like an AC switch? Why would a bad contact at the door switch make the interior lites flicker whet driving down the road? I think you might be wrong about the manual button but I'm not 100%.

i didn't know what he meant by AC switch - air conditioning, alternating current....that was a WAG. i don't know what kind of switches the earlier models had in that area.

if the door switch was loose or faulty, it could think the door was open and turn on the interior lights, intermittantly. the glove compartment light switch on my old car used to do this until i fixed it - nice light show coming from the glove box while i drove down the road.

the manual button does prevent downshifts (from 2nd to 1st only, i think) to prevent slipping under heavy throttle. i think some police cars even have this feature, but then again, most of them don't have AWD.

Understood. BTW. My 90 Legacy had a loose door switch that would turn on every light inside the car whenever you took right turns or hit a bump, talk about a light show.

Go to Subaru Website, and request them for your cars manual, they should send it to you for free.

I guess this should do it
