Communism is a perfect system for the perfect world, but we don't like in a perfect world. We live in a world with cheats, scammers, slothes, and people who are greedy. So for communism to ever work...good luck

Now go relay that message to the White House so we might have a chance to "change" direction

Re: Why our country is screwed

I was recently layed off in May after working for the same place for 13 yrs. I get 10 weeks of severence plus unemployment. In order to receive unemployment you have to be able and willing to look for work. I look everyday for something decent but most of the jobs pay less than what I receive in unemployment. I dont feel like getting it as a "entitlement" as I have worked full time since 1992, paid taxes etc.

The problem lie with the people, corporations and government who cheat the rest of us out of aid. I have seen the "welfare" recipients at the grocery store getting $300-500 worth of food monthly, that smell like s**t because they are so lazy to take a bath and leave in a brand new car Im paying for my groceries with either my savings or sometimes my unemployment.

Obama talks of "change" but he is just the Head of State with cronies that have been running this country into the ground for decades. Why you ask? Because they are getting rich off of screwing Americans.

Here are a few quotes of one of my heros as they hold true to this day-Thomas Jefferson
Every generation needs a new revolution.

History, in general, only informs us of what bad government is.

I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.

Never spend your money before you have earned it.

No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms.

The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.

The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Great man who I wish could be around today.

But Tom, he also said (as did most folks, even McCain) that it would NOT be easy to clean up what the last administration did to this country. It's pretty bad when the candidate of the incumbent's party says it's bad ..... And I'm not talking about just the Iraq war. It was / is the almost total delegulation of businesses. Remember how it was touted that we needed to delegulate cable TV so it would be competitive and cost to the consumer would go down? How's that working in your area? Not so well in mine.... That's just one example .....

Yep, sure would, given the same choices I had at the time. BTW, communism is a far cry from what we have now or will ever have.

Now I am not a die hard republican, there are many things wrong with the Republican party that I do not like or support. There are simply that many more things wrong with Democratic party and its ideology that push me away from it. And I am not a republican OR a democrat, but rather an independent. I voted for George W. the first time around, but soon saw the light. Obama needs time to undo the mess we are now in. The financial situation we find ourselves did not happen overnight, and there are no quick fixes. Personally, I think optimism and good intentions are two of the things that have made this country great over the past 200 years. Without those two things, we would not even be here today.

Tom
The fact that we can have this discussion at all is clear evidence that we live in a great country. Of course it bothered me that the Bush administration went outside the law with wiretaps and such (I used to be in that business and I know without a doubt how that can be abused).
But I respect your opinion, Tom. You have many good points. And yes, let's bring ole Andy Jefferson back!!

Harry

PS: Thanks for your views too, BOXERFANATIC. I'm always open to another opinion .....

Communism isn't even that idyllic. It ignores individual human nature almost entirely, and not all of human nature is as bad as what you have listed. Marx was FAR too simplistic, and only looked at people as homogeneous economic class groups, who work as collective units, without independent thought. He not only ignored the evil inherent in human nature, but also the goodness. Humans are not flesh robots, and Marx doesn't account for that, in the people, or their rulers.

Communism abhors even appropriate ambition, and quashes it to the point that only despotism rules. The only people who can rise to the top of Communism are those who are so absolutely amoral that they break the very rules they enforce on everyone else. Communism breeds the worst leaders, because the people who would otherwise be good ones are the ones who aren't breaking the oppressive rules.

To enforce such oppressive rules, brutal tyranny is required to repress any dissent, which also breeds sociopathic, genocidal leaders. Like Stalin, Pol Pot, Mao Tze Tung, Mugabe, Hitler, Amadenijad, Hussein, Castro, Chavez, Ortega, Guevarra, and on and on...

"From each according to their ability, to each according to their need" is a recipe for stagnation, and the death of the human spirit, and a ready-made way for tyrants to oppress the populace.

Freedom is the only way to allow people to be better than their more base behaviors.

Socialism, Communism, Fascism, Authoritarianism, despotism, and there are dozens more terms for the dozens of flavors of the rule of men over other men.

Every tyrant thinks they have the slight adjustment to that oppressive formula, that will make it work this time, where it has failed every time before. And they are ALL wrong. Obama is wrong, as he thinks he is smart enough to have a new take on an ancient system that fails every time it is tried.

My favorite movie, Serenity has a couple of VERY good lines.
Quote:
young River Tam: People don't like to be meddled with. We tell them what to do, what to think, don't run, don't walk. We're in their homes and in their heads and we haven't the right. We're meddlesome.
Quote:
Capt. Malcolm Reynolds: ...Sure as I know anything, I know this - they will try again. Maybe on another world, maybe on this very ground swept clean. A year from now, ten? They'll swing back to the belief that they can make people... better. And I do not hold to that. So no more runnin'. I aim to misbehave.
Freedom stands alone as the rule of a man over himself, and an American style Democratic Republic is wholly inadequate to govern any man who will not rule himself. Something to that effect was stated by Benjamin Franklin, when it was founded.

Re: Why our country is screwed

Its sad that the choices of a few hundred elected officials dictate the fate of our lives. The campaign promises gets them in and then they are bought out and we are forgotten.
We as Americans need a common cause and build on that. We need "change" but not in the way Obama describes. We need common sense government and society.

545 people, and their associated staff do not dictate the fate of our lives, and you should not give in to let them.

However, you are right, they are assuming more power every day, and they are less and less accountable to the people they swore an oath to serve. They swore to protect and defend the US Constitution.

The Preamble of the constitution is a single sentence.

Quote:

The subject of the sentence is the people of the United States.

The verbs of the sentence are "do establish and ordain".

The object being established and ordained is the Constitution itself. The constituting of the federalist-type democratic republic government of the united states.

When they take that oath, they essentially say that they agree with, and promise to protect and defend that paradigm and system, where the government is instituted by, and thus is subjugated to the people it governs.

That is where "Of the people, for the people, by the people" comes from.

By violating that, they are breaking their Oaths of Office. Theoretically, that should be grounds for their removal from power, by impeachment if necessary. According to the Declaration of Independence, by force, if absolutely necessary, but I don't think that is the state of affairs anyone wants to reach.

Remember, the next time you go to the ballot box, that "of the elite, for the special interests, by the powerful" is not what citizens should be voting for.

And also remember that: "A government big enough to give you everything you want, is strong enough to take everything you have." -Gerald Ford

As BOXERFANATIC implies in his post following yours, we, the people, of the US have the right to vote out those we don't believe have our best interest at heart - every four years for our president. It would be interesting to know exactly how many of the complainers we have today (even on this forum) actually exercise their right to VOTE. And even then forget that the majority rule ......
