Check engine codes
Thanks to the information I found here I was able to do the self diagnostic test for the check engine. Here's what I got
firts I got one long blink and then one short blink so I assume that is code #11 then I got two long and eight short so that would be code #28 right? Ok code #11 points to crank angle sensor or circuit question: What in the world is the crank angle sensor? where is it located? where can I buy a replacement? Can I install it my self? Code #28 points to Knock sensor No.2(SVX, Left side) and I have the same questions as the previous code. Thanks guys |

Go to How to documents and click on the engine folder and you will find instructions on how to do it.

Clear the codes and see if they return.
Usually code 11 will result in a no-start. Accurate diagnosis requires a GMM, DMM or an o-scope. At $200+ for a new one I'd just clear it and see if it returns. My car had the same code in it when I first checked it but it has never returned. Knock sensor codes can be erratic sometimes, especially if you've had a rattle from a loose bracket, worn pulley, bad alternator bearing, etc. If the code comes back you'll probably need to replace both knock sensors. Not replacing a bad knock sensor will cause the computer to retard the timing eight degrees, which will cause a slight power and mpg loss.
