OT: eclipse help

Sooo I'm replacing the fuel pump in my eclipse, and i run into a problem. There are 6 bolts holding the fuel pump assembly to the gas tank. 3 of the nuts come right off. 3 look to be smaller and decide not to. Soo, i go through every socket i have... its larger than a 7 mm, and smaller than an 8. and its larger than a 1/4 but smaller than a 9/32... soooo on to the vise-grips. break one of them clear off, which works for me at this point... but the other two just seem to bend and change shape without ever breaking or moving.

So heres my question... how do you break off a nut like this... without throwing a spark??? seeing as how there is gasoline vapors in the area, sparks seem like a bad idea to me right now.
