Exhaust Resonator

I have decided its time to delete my exhaust resonator. its just rattles too much. at first i thought it was heat shields, but i dont think so anymore. many of them are gone and still the rattle!
I have an exhaust leak right at the connection to my resonator, so i just figure to take it out. who else has done this? i am just gonna take a piece of straight pipe and weld it in there. thoughts??

I took mine out, and replaced it with straight pipe. It makes the stock exhaust sound...robotic...if you can think of how that sounds.
Then I got exhaust, and because i dont have the resonator, it buzzes a little bit at higher RPMs.
Been thinking of adding it back in, but (read sig. line)....havent gotten around to it.

Just removed mine today and added in a 80 series Delta flow Flowmaster... I like it so far, the car does sound like a wuss up at high RPM though. I've been spoiled by my exhaust on V8.

Did you notice any difference in power when you removed the resonator?

I have repaired my resonator in place ...

I actually cut mine open (the bottom) and examined the whole thing (ok ok I modified it a little bit ...).

It seems that it has a weak point in a "wall" welded to the outer case (bottom).

I think that MANY of the rattling resonators have the same fault.

It's VERY easy to fix (even in place).

If you look at it, from the bottom side, right in the center , there is a "standing" wall inside, that is welded to the bottom, and theese weld points seem to break.

GAAHH, i add a pic , my english sux ...

All you have to do is examine if there are any signs of that the welds have turn loose, and in that case reweld them (MIG).

If there is no sign of such, jack the car up and ask if anyone could rev the enginge while you push the bottom wall of the resonator upwards, with some tool or bar, if the rattle disappear when doing that, just just drill some holes 6mm (1/4") in the center line, but just drill through the outer wall, then weld in the holes.

I really hope that this was understandable ..

Makes sense to me and sounds easy enough. Thanks.
