First one is to check the codes, second is to clear them

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

under that kick panel is 2 wires that when you place one of them into the terminal in the correct spot then turn the key on it will cause the check engine light to flash in a specific series to tell you the code number(which you can then look up to find what sensor or problem is causing the check engine light to come up) then you can place both wires in to clear the codes.
What he has done(im fairly sure) is connected those wires to one side of the switch and ran a wire to the terminals from the other side of the switch, so when he flips one switch then turns on the ignition it will start the code reading, when he flips both switches it will clear the codes.
I would guess that he connected them so when the switched is flipped closed ( meaning it will start reading codes) the light comes on.

I meant for them to do this (even went back and swapped one of them out for a green LED (green to check, green & red to clear)) but they are 12v LEDs and the black connector only sends 4-5v to the blue wires

I'll eventually put in some switches that will light up, but the Texas heat was hurrying me to finish up

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

While not exactly what I've done TO my car, I am getting the new garage space set up accordingly for the Laguna... even in its not so driveable condition.

I'll be moving the car into its spot come next weekend and I feel like there should be a rather large SVX poster of sorts hanging on the wall and a proper Alcyone horns feets mat for the entrance door... but those will come later.

Those are a fine set of Apkarian's LED tail lights you see there on top. (that of course, arrived two weeks after the accident ( insert whale face here ) along with a ton of other new goodies that are waiting (now longer than before) before they go on. In the mean time, I'll be getting a new front bumper, hood, fenders, rear qtr. panels etc. etc. for sometime after the winter break for the complete rebuild. Everyone says dump it, move on, it's done for... and for those who have suggested such madness, I'm beginning to question your love for these cars. that and I'm just madly insane, clearly. But no, it must live on.

Anyway, pic!:

Just to be clear, those are not Verdes but in fact the Lexus SC430 rims inside. Now if I can just add a nice new suspension to this picture I think I'd be set after the rebuild takes place.

The blue wire never seemed to work for clearing codes for me, so I just unplug the battery when I need to clear a code.
Check post #1095 for photos of my pull switch installation.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

repaired the radiator crack...I'm broke, what can I do
instructions for anybody who is broke or cheap: scratch up the surface with sandpaper or small grinding wheel, then use jb weld
mine kinda exploded in some spots, so I grinded those spots with one of those stone grinding sets, and put a thick layer of super glue on top...
few hours later I took it for a drive and it pulled water from the reserve thank, so I assume it has worked
PS: after you are done, keep an eye on the water level and BE SURE THAT IT IS HOLDING UP...you don't wanna replace a head gasket, or do you?!

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Replaced the timing belt. Seems to have completely fixed the problem I was having.

Had left side O2 sensor code after a few minutes of driving that would clear itself at high rpm, idled rough and way too low, at idle the left pre-cat would heat up to glowing red hot but was not clogged.

I've been playing with this thing for a while now. Checked injectors, coils, MAF, vacuum, etc.....all the normal stuff. Finally came across mention on here of a timing belt having jumped a few teeth causing similar symptoms. Check of my timing belt and it was off. Oddly to me, the right side was off by two teeth and the left side (where the O2 code was) by only one. The tensioner adjuster was extended all the way and the belt was way too slack. This is the engine out of another car with ~178,000 on it at partout and that may have been the original belt.

It's silky smooth and I have some bottom end torque now

Now on to the power steering and a/c.
Ahh, the adventures of SVXing

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Painted all 4 calipers black on the red one and regreased them, changed front pads and found a screw lodged in my LR new tire. Luckily it holds air so i'm just going to leave it alone.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

I was finally able to throw my car up on a lift today. I didn't work on anything, simply peeked around, located some leaks, and found the source of why my car has been pulling to the left.

A couple winters ago I hit a patch of ice in a parking lot and slid head first into a curb. It damaged my LF wheel and threw my alignment way off. I replaced the wheel and had Subaru do an alignment. They neglected to tell me what parts needed replacing, so I've been dealing with a slight pull to the left for awhile. Fortunately I haven't been experiencing any uneven tire wear, so it's not a major concern. But I know now that I need to replace my LF control arm and bushings. Luckily for me, I'll be taking an undercar class here in the near future where I'll be able to do all of the work myself, at school, and on a lift. You can see in the last couple pictures how out of round that front bushing is.
