Glad to hear an update, even if it sucks that the 3.9 is giving you trouble. Could be something simply lodged in a line as well. Def. check the line pressure and get back to us, hopefully it is something simple... Good luck and let us know how it goes

not that it will fix the transmission problem that is making the heat to begin with but I ordered a fan to put on my plate and fin cooler so I can move it to the fenderwell and stop heat soaking the radiator. It's a step.

Hey, if it helps any, the courses at FedEx are extremely challenging - made even more so by the nature of the E/F parking lot (lots of camber changes, lots of pavement composition changes, up hill, down hill, etc.). Nothing like those nice, flat pool tables they have to race on up in PA . -Bill (sorry that he couldn't make it, wife's dislocated kneecap put a dent in the plans for the weekend ) p.s. Look at getting better tires ASAP if you're going to be doing any more autoXing -- the weight of the car isn't that big a deal -- note the Camaros that placed 3rd and 8th -- they weigh in at around 3400 lbs. no it doesn't and the atf cooler is successful at cooling the fluid that gets to the atf temp sensor. let's not fill this thread with transmission comments unless someone thinks they have some real insight

Did you get a chance to check the pressure?? Just curious

slipping be it from low line pressure or just worn out friction materials makes heat. The ecu software has nothing to do with it. The transmission is making the heat not the engine.

Mike, Page 54/post #796 -- "It looks to have few miles since it was rebuilt." -- do you know the shop that did the rebuild on the 3.9 trans? As you commented in a later post, I agree that it makes sense for you to put a pressure gage on the trans to confirm that you've got the right line pressure. I'll take it as a given that you've already check the TCU for codes and didn't find any.... Just how much "heat" is the trans generating? Didn't you install a ATF temp. gauge a while back? -Bill

I have no clue what shop did the rebuild. Neither did the person I bought the transmission from or the person he bought the transmission from. I've been monitoring it with a select monitor. That's how I know the atf temp. Come on now guys really.....when i say the trans is making a lot of heat I'm not guessing. A lot of heat is a lot of heat--a lot more than one of these transmissions normally makes. It heats up much faster than normal and if it wasn't for the big cooler I have on it it would keep on going. The large plate and fin cooler I have now is able to dissipate that heat and keep the atf down to reasonable operating temps. but the transmssion is still making way more heat than it should.

So now that you have the cooler on, have you been able to do your final tune yet? Are there any other updates? Have the Chargers come in from sweden yet? Which one came first; the chicken or the egg?

Tranny Options
Have you thought about a level 10 rebuild? They are supposed to use some materials that are stronger during shifting. Also the line pressure is huge from the valve body modification they do. Shifting is much quicker. Less friction due to the quicker shift. It is quite expensive, though, compared to a stock rebuild, but well worth it, I think, even for a stock SVX. The plate and frame cooler you installed should help with all of these modifications too. That is what I am using. I have a level 10 rebuilt tranny in my SVX and it never gets hot.
Although I like the standard trans mods a lot of folks are doing, I think even a slightly modified STi transmission would have difficulties handling 400 Hp reliably with the weight of our car. Also the 6 speed conversion is much more expensive than a level 10 rebuild. I think the route you are going is good considering the power you are making. Good Luck

I have been reading the last pages =P Did I miss where you said you were for sure going to do the final tune now? Or the stuff actuallty arriving from sweden? I shall go back and check now and then edit this as I will most likely undoubtedly find myself wrong.
Edit: Wow...I did miss something. You told me you would tell me when it arrived. I am officially banned from posting tell next page >_< P.S. A stock Sti 6 speed can hold 600 horse, proven. I will probably be switching over to a WRX 5 speed and then go and talk to Andrewtech. They have wrx's running 600 horse at the wheels without dogboxes on the 5 speeds.
