If a number of people are going to work on JDash then would it be best to have it on a seperate thread then it won't get so confusing with all the topics at once.

FYI,
If we need some JAVA programming, I have a brother who knows how to program in it. Just let me know what we need him to look at. -Bill

Ok, SVXRide is nice enough to lend me his innovative wideband that has datalogging software and hardware. it allows me to monitor the AFR along with 4 other 0-5v analog sensors.... What can I use?? I mostly want to monitor timing retard, TPS, RPM, and anything else someone would suggest? Also, what is a good way to tap into these??

Hocrest: Sounds like a connection issue, but let's make sure it isn't something simple before jumping to conclusions like "my cable isn't working." Open SelectMonitor.ini (the modified one, which you should have replaced the VRWX one with). Now, leaving that open (but ignoring it for now), go to Start-->Control Panel. Then (assuming you're using XP/Vista and using "Classic View" for the Control Panel) open the "System" panel. Click the "Hardware" tab, then click the "Device Manager" button. Click the "+" box next to "Ports (COM & LPT)" and check to see which port you're using. If it's a USB adapter, it will most likely be named something obvious like "USB Serial Adapter." The COM # next to it is what you need; it'll say something like "COM11." Using COM11 as an example, you then go into SelectMonitor.ini, and change: CommPort=1 to CommPort=11 Then it should work. If that does not work, then you do have a problem with either the USB hub on your computer (unlikely) or the cable itself (likely) or the car's transmitter (unlikely). In the event the above does not solve the problem, post such and I have another test which can be performed. |

Yeah, I set it to com 5. I'm gonna check it out on my 97 Leg tomorrow to see if that does anything different....

In that case, please get the RS232 Comm Tool from here:
http://www.rs232pro.com/include/RS232HD60.exe I'll add you to AIM and see if I can talk you through the small test. |

So between phone calls with Tom and chatting with Upnorth Mike and Nomake, it still isn't working. Mike thinks I need to add on a board to correct for the "92 ECU problem"
Chatting with Nomake today, we couldn't get it to communicate with the TCU either. Here is the a copy of the chat; Quote:
Any thoughts? If I can't get this cable to work, I'll just get one of Mike's...

I may be wrong, because the datasheet is a bit cryptic, but it looks to me as if the CP2102 chip in your USB cable is for 3.3 volt TTL. The car uses 5 volt TTL.
This could be the problem. The cable is using 0v to send logic 0 and 3.3v for logic 1. The car is expecting 0v for logic 0 and 5v for logic 1. It could be that 3.3v isn't quite high enough for the car to recognise it as logic 1. In other words, it could be the 92 problem in the opposite direction.

Phil, you're correct. I just read the datasheet and it is indeed a 3.3V model.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...ype=osi_widget That, however, is the +5V model. |

So is it, you need a 5V-TTL-Level.
