Thus the reason so many manuals fail.....not because they're weaker....but because they are easier to abuse...

The stock WRX tranny I recon is a kinda skechaly built tranny... Must be some sort of metalergy problem... My friend's 02 WRX Wagon (The one in my locker) was well up around 320hp and he did manr REDLINE Drops at the drag strip in it... That tranny lasted 48k miles before first gear exploded... Not that I blame it... That was really abusive, and I made sure to tell him that he was gonna screw his tranny if he kept driving like that... He calmed down a while on it... But to give ya an idea of the power that it held... His best time slip at Savannah 1/8th dragway was 8.6sec... That was with 4 people in the car and a 7k rpm clutch drop... Sure it felt really cool but at the same time I could only imagine the kind of abuse that that 5MT was going through inside... If you are gonna run a 100+ shot in the SVX then my only advice would be to get a tranny from a 04 WRX, 04 Forester XT, or an STi... Those are the strongest Subaru tranny's to date... If you can find the Forester XT tranny then you've found a JEWL!!! It is essentially the SAME tranny as a V.5 STi tranny... Same gearing ratios and same Syncro setup... To anyone that's driven an XT then you know... That is no WRX tranny... It's 10x smoother and easier to shift... Also it is the same leingth as the WRX tranny so all the modifications that ya would do to a SVX for a WRX 5MT swap are the same with this tranny... If I could do it over again and take my 03 WRX tranny out I would do this in a second!!!

Good food for thought... People often say that the WRX 5MT tranny wouldn't last long in an SVX b/c our cars weigh so much heavier - but doesn't the wagon have a curb weight of at least 200lbs more than the WRX sedan? 48K miles is an extremely long time for any tranny to last with that kind of abuse - 8.6 in the 1/8th is flying! I ran an 8.81 when I made a 13.64s pass in my Lightning (see sig)

If the Forester XT tranny is the same as the STI, I may need to look into obtaining one when I do a 5spd swap in the next year or so.

Thanks!

The Forrester XT gear ratios are identical to the WRX gear ratios which are different than both the STi v5/6 and STi RA v5/6 gear ratios. The fact that the XT gear ratios are different than the STi v5/6 and STi RA v5/6 gear ratios suggests that XT gears are not built like the STi v5/6 and STi RA v5/6 gears. But the only way to really know is to disassemble the tranny and have a look at the gears. Do you know anyone who has done that? I'd be curious to know if they are built as ruggedly.

Dude, the gear ratios of the WRX tranny and the XT tranny are no way alike... For one the XT has a final drive of 4.44 instead of the 3.90 that the WRX has... Also the WRX can go 76mph at 3,000rpm... The XT can do about 67-70MPH at 3,000rpm... How do I know?? I test drove one extensively about 4 months ago... How can I make an accurate comparison between a v.5 STi and the XT tranny?? Because my dad had one a few years ago and I drove it... The shift points are EXACTLY the same... Just think about it... Subaru developes a new AWESOME 2.5 turbo engine. They know that there are problems with the standard WRX tranny, so they look for a solution so that they won't have the problems that they did with the WRX... So they look at previous tranny's that they have made and come up with the best solution... v.5 STi Tranny... Why??? Very strong. Low gear ratio's for great transfer of torque (offroading and what not). Design that has already been proven in a more powerful car...

The final drive ratios are different between the WRX and the Forrester XT as you said, but the gear ratios are identical.

thur may 6th,

I'm satisfied with the jetting I ran in yesterday's trial runs. Packing up to go to Mastro right now. Don't expect results over the weekend though. I may be able to get online and choose to come post something but no promisses. I'm going to stay the weekend on the west coast. Probably monday I'll start new threads specifically for stage 1 and stage 2 with the dyno plots. I'll also start working on the website and open up for business.

Just wondering

Are you going to do a baseline with the normal SVX ecu to compare the other two?
