I'm pretty happy with my SVX, and hope I stay that way.
Irks, I would better gas mileage -- I'm barely getting 17mpg. When I bought the car in may I was getting better mileage. I'm not that crazy about the big silver SVX decal that some previous owner put on the bottom of both doors. The spoiler has two spots that could use repainting. The driver's door has a few touch ups that could look better. The cd player could be less tempermental. The paint on the wheels has a few spots that could be better. The disc brakes have some rust -- I will replace them when I need the next brake job. I would have liked to find an AWD with ABS and moonroof instead of FWD. Damn, I didn't know my list would be this long. Funny thing is everyone who sees the car thinks it's much more expensive than it is, and I like driving it much more than my 2006 Outback -- which I will be driving much more come September. |

I agree there are some little "annoyances" which are not worth the trouble and expense to tear things apart to fix them (sunroof sticking, drooping sunvisors, small rattles, etc.) but a lot of the things people are listing here are simply maintenance issues. After all, the cars are between 9 and 15 years old! Some items (like oxidized headlights) just require one initial large effort and then periodic touch-ups to correct.
BTW, Tom had a rattle behind the passenger side rear window which only began when his wheel bearing went bad. Once he replaced the wheel bearing, the rattle disappeared! Might be something to look into for some of you guys.

I just spent an hour cleaning out the tracks on the sunroof and it still won't close without a push on the rear of it. but it does go back and forth better than ever now

It makes a click/thump noise when it tries to close right when it stops though, and i found out that the noise comes from the little black plastic piece on the driver's side track. It's the little plastic black piece that, when the sunroof is open, you can push towards the rear of the sunroof with your finger. After I tried closing the sunroof while looking at this piece from the inside of the car I found it to be getting stuck on something then the thump is when the spring shoots it forward. I tried cleaning it out but it didn't seem to help. Also, when I open the sunroof, right when it first goes up the motor seems to bog down a little. I'm sure this is related but not sure how.

Hmm
Sometimes when I get out of the car with the window down I hit my head on the part that doesn't go down...

I thought of something else: That sorry, flimsy, cheap-ass particle board cover over the spare tire well. My old Legacy had a nice lift-out tray with storage cubbies and a hinged lid, and this was the best they could do for the SVX?

yeah I agree...my legacy was just like yours...had a nice plastic storage tray.
How about also in the trunk area..the walls of the trunk...the material wont fit back into the channels in the car, you know the liner I guess it's called where the access is to the rear lights....I can't get any of that to pop back in and stay!! |

Everyone wants to put their marks on it, see how close they can park to it. The perfect paint job now has a door dent on the top front fender (pick-up?)! Someone else ran a Home Depot cart into the passenger's door.

After loosing the nut cover for the rear wiper a second time in the car wash, I painted the nut black so that it would not be so obvious.
Drooping sun visors that I am too lazy to fix right now. They just ned to be pulled apart and the spine wraped with teflon tape. This stands up better in the heat. The rain water that drips into the trunk when the lid is open, very poor water management. And here are some things I still like very much. Exceeding the posted limit when there are no other cars on the road. ![]() Driving in the rain is like driving on a dry road, very stable. Great stock sound system Great climate control Enjoyable to drive, smooth and quiet. ![]() Comfortable drivers seat Can fit my skis or mountain bike in the back Four wheel disk, ABS and AWD ![]() It is really 14 years old and does not look it or run like it at all ![]()
