No problem... I thought you had vanished because under your user info it says you're an unused account marked for deletion!

According to the datasheet on the FT232R, Plug+Play should only be enabled for devices which are common and use their own drivers, such as serial-based mice and modems. Enabling plug-and-play will cause the computer to search beyond the USB-TTL adapter and look for further hardware. Since the ECU does not fall into this category, Plug-and-Play should remain disabled (saves some CPU cycles).
I did, however, reprogram the cable (just now, not prior to testing) to set it to "self-powered" mode. This causes the +5V Out line to become dead. Since we are not connecting current to our ECUs, I feel this is more efficient. It still does not fix my problem however. |

Correction!
Because I had previously used a USB-to-Serial device, my computer confused the generic driver with the real driver for this specific device. By clicking "update driver" I have changed over. I will go test now. |

Yes that could be the problem. Uninstall this existing drivers from your old adapter.

That fixed the problem of the adapter working improperly. It now operates as it should. Thank you for the reminder to check my drivers, Tobi!
But I am sorrowful to report that this adapter, despite being self-powered, succumbs to the "92 Bug." In fact, it succumbs worse than our original adapter! If you connect and send "45 12 34 00" to query the transmission, it works fine and dandy. Nothing wrong there. If you connect and send "78 12 34 00" to query the engine, nothing happens. Nothing at all. I will continue trying some things in the mean time. |

No problem
But its curious that the 0x78 dont work. I get my values with 0x78 and stop with 0x12. This works perfect. |

By the way, this device lets me vary current from 0-500 mA. The upgrade board would use...? |

Your car does not have the problem our 1992 SVXs do.

Ahh OK, but i think its not a problem to start with 0x45.
Write your own tool and it works fine. Its only the different between 45 and 78? Is this right? Or other problems during the transfer? |

It works flawlessly, just like our original Serial-TTL box did, when talking to the transmission. This is 0x45.
It does not work at all (which is actually significantly worse performance than our original Serial-TTL box) when talking to the engine. Which is 0x78. I will have to build the upgrade circuit and wire it in, see what happens. I hope I didn't fry something when I was frantically trying to troubleshoot why the adapter wasn't working! |

Way way under the 500mA limit. Probably 5mA, or something really small. You shouldn't have to change anything.
