BTW, the 968 is just the last "version" of the 924/944, with a large 3.0L 4 cyclinder (essentially 1/2 of a 928 engine), and revised front and rear styling. no turbo for the US models, NA only. ![]()

The 928 started out with a 4.5L V-8 (928), 5.0L V-8 (928 S4), and ended with a 5.4L V-8 (928 GTS).
The 924 used a 2.0L I-4 and the turbo model {931} used the same block. The 924S used the 2.5L I-4 from the 944. The 944 started with a 2.5L I-4, had a 2.7L I-4 in 1989 only, and ended with a 3.0L I-4 (944S2) The turbo model {951} used the same 2.5L displacement but had 217hp in 1986-1988. The 951S, also in 1988, had 250hp. The 1989 951 was not called S, but was 250hp. The 968 used a 3.0L I-4 with VarioCam during it's 1992-1995 run. |

951s are cool cars... After having ripped through almost 3 now with my buddy, I have both respect and disgust though...
There are somethings that are just amazingly smart. You look at things like the stock external wastegate, and the intake manifold design and such and I'm like... Wow, they're smart. (they were the first with a "turbo timer" if you will... pretty sweet.) And then you tear apart a block and see how it is, IMO, overcomplicated (crazy girdle/mains/two part block...) and the crazy torsion bar rear suspension. And I'm think to myself... maybe this was technology limited, or maybe there were reasons of doing it this way back then... Then we changed a clutch... Eff you Porsche... eff you.

Thanks for all of the replies. I love it so far!
Definitely not looking forward to a clutch repair. Luckily, I have more than one car now, so any repairs can be done slowly without too much stress. It is going to be fun to tinker with.
