I'm flying to Baltimore this weekend to bring one home and am curious on how others handled the drive home. Thanks, Todd

Don't forget that no matter what one does to cure the ill the friction material in the tc may just be totally shot.

Todd...Thanks for the welcome. Glad to be here!
I took a Georgia plate with me and drove the speed limit everywhere. In Georgia you have 30 days from auto sale to register the car. If you get pulled over with a sign like "Tag Applied For" you can show your Title and Bill of Sale and be on your way. Beav...What friction material are you refering to? |

TC shuddering.
Hi welcome to the forum.
As you have a 92 model with 115k on the orignal trans, you could well have the flackey facing problem that affected some of those early boxs. The lock-up clutch on the torque converter, flacks pieces of facing off the clutch. These pieces end up blocking the transmission cooler in the bottom of the radiator, to prevent the oil from cooling and lubeing the transmission gears. Failure of the High clutch and planetary gears follow.( unless it was fitted with the filter under the battery) Yours may have lost enought of the facing, to cause the shuddering, as it trys to lock-up. When you cleaned the screen in the trans pan, was there much debri there? I would check the oil cooler to see if it is blocked, reverse flush the cooler to remove any blockage. If the flair into 2nd continues, adjust the brake band. Harvey.

Turns out my TC was not the cause of the shutter after all. Since I don't have a TC anymore, I'm pretty sure of that. Looks like it may be coil or plug related. Going to dig into the root cause after fixing my current and common stall issue.
