ensteele,

I see you're with North West SVX. My wife and I will be in Portland and Seattle in April. We're tired of LA and are looking around at other cities to live. Maybe by then I'll have an SVX of my own

92 SVX I found---Not such a deal

I drove out to Santa Barbara today and drove the SVX. This is my first time driving one but I was not that impressed. Drive train not that quiet. . . bearings? Tranny wasn't that great. Not sure how normal performance is with an auto but not impressive and body was not pristine. For 10K I'll keep looking.

If the body wasn't pristine, the bearings are failing and the tranny seemed suspect, then you should be talking like 2-3k, not 10. Good call on continuing your search. I looked for years.

PS: I drive a pearlie, man

Edit: I should mention, don't be surprised if she's not all that off the line (stock). Make sure you test drive on the highway. So nice.

Transmission and wheel bearing problems at only 25,000 miles? That sounds like one poor abused SVX!

Thge car didn't have "problems" yet but the tranny seemed weak and it may not have been bearings possibly new shocks or struts. I'm not sure it was abused but it is 14 years old and probably never had these things changed or rebuilt.

Also. one of the motorized shoulder harnesses worked intermittently and the trunk release inside didn't work.

Too bad I didn't see this thread until today, I could have taken a look at the car and possibly saved you the trip.

the transmission that comes standard in this car leaves much to be desired. It pulls great on the highway but doesnt have quite enough low end grunt to get it moving. If your considering buying one of theese cars, you may want to find a nice one that has a blown tranny and swap in a set of 4.11's or 4.44's. Or even a 5 speed if your comfortable with that.
Anyhow, let the search continue and good luck

Not everyone wants a 5 speed manual. I don't have any problems with my auto tranny getting the car rolling. The 5 speed does make it more zippy, but I would not want to drive it very far because of the poor fuel economy.

I get the same highway mileage with the WRX 5spd vs stock 4eat and much better city MPG with the WRX 5spd.
