Hear Right?
Did you mean to say "Curling" instead of "Hurling" was the national sport?
Any way have a very happy Patty's day. I have a bit of Irish and Scot in me, so Bottoms Up (You know how we Americans are Heinz 57 varieties-the best of all countries). To heck with however many fingers that is. Lee

Thanks Trevor. Dark horses, eh?? And yesterday, our under 21 Rugby squad won out their 6 Nations. Certainly a very good Patrick's Day for the Irish.

Safe!!!
Well the old geezer made it home safely after a night at the tavern (pub) drinking to good old Patty. It was actually quite strange. In the area I live, it is 86 percent Hispanic (Spain ancestry dating back to the 1500 and 1600s not Mexican-no offense of course.), but they were all wearing green and toasting St Patty. I think there were only 3 blue eyed people in the whole place.
I guess it is true that everyone has a bit of Irish in them on St Patricks Day. Lee

We Irish tend to think of our roots as Celtic, and this is true, but only to an extent. If you approach it with a less romantic, more scientific look at the gene-pool, you will see that we have had input from many sources. No pun intended. We have Spanish influence on the west coast, Portuguese and West African on the south coast, Norse influence from way back, European and French influence from the time of the Normans, and fairly recently English and Scots influence from the various plantations under English rule. So we Irish and you Americans do not differ a whole lot under the skin, although we have led a sheltered island existence up to now in terms of colour. These days, I do not see the term Irish as having any kind of a pure racial or locational element in the adjective. I think it is more a state of mind. [And any of your Hispanic style neighbours are as welcome to be Irish for a while, as they would I'm sure welcome us in their celebrations]
